Elevated Parathyroid Hormone

Has anyone ever had an elevated parathyroid (PTH) level? my husband had high calcium and they drew his PTH level and it was high. it usually is because of a tumor on the parathyroid, which is usually benign. my husband has been through hell with brain cancer 3 years ago, chemo, radiation and a million prescriptions. i am so sick about this new problem

has anyone gone through this?

A good friend of mine went through this- it wasn't a tumor- just an overactive parathyroid. They injected dye into it and it lowered her levels. She has to get tested frequently that the gland is not overactive again. But, she is fine.

My dad is going through this now. He has to get a few tests to see if he needs surgery or if the small tumor can just be left alone.

are there any symptoms of this? my DH has not been feeling and i am wondering if there are any symptoms

My dad just had his thyroid and parathyroid removed. The para regulates the calcium levels but dont stress too much about it because if they need to take it out its a same day or maybe overnight stay and my dad was fine (back to work) in a few days. The put him on thyroid meds for the lack of thyroid and then calcium for not having the para.

He also had a tumor and the dr told him that it is rare they are cancer.
