Elwood or Northport schools?
We're going into contract on our home this week, so we're actively looking for a new house. We just had a deal fall through in Huntington/Harborfields (Someone out bid our accepted offer before we got into contract) While Harborfields would be ideal and I like living in Huntington, we also found a couple of good contenders in Greenlawn (Elwood) and Northport. My DH grew up in the area and went Elwood so I'm aware of the neighborhood and know that they're both considered good schools, but just wondering how Elwood and Northport compare. The Northport house is a little further east than I wanted to be (esp since I commute to NYC) but it does seem like a great community.
I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks!

Elwood or Northport schools?
I went through the Northport Schools and my mom taught there forever. I loved it. It is a pretty big district where Elwood is tiny compared.

I grew up in Greenlawn and went to Elwood. Elwood is much smaller than Northport but both are good schools.

Re: Elwood or Northport schools?
I grew up in the Northport schools and thought they were great. But I really think you can't go wrong with either district. They are both good.
I would just be careful about what neighborhood exactly because some can make for a very long drive to the train and that can add a lot of hassle to your commute.
Feel free to FM location if you want.
I currently live in Harborfields and DS commutes to the city via the Hunt. train station. It's only a 10 minute drive which is perfect.

Re: Elwood or Northport schools?
Thanks all! I'm less than 10 minutes from the huntington train station, so that would be ideal. I also don't love that northport makes for a longer train commute, but right now, I'm only commuting 2 days a week (though at some point, I may be back to 5) so it wouldn't be the end of the world.
We're probably going to throw out bids on both contenders and see what kind of responses we get.

Re: Elwood or Northport schools?
Although they are all good districts there are always those rumors that Elwood wants to merge with another local district. I believe it's been discussed at Elwood school board meetings and at the meetings of the board of the districts they've proposed this to. So far they do not have takers. All of the neighboring districts are great but with the future of the district being even a little bit questionable I would have to hesitate. I grew up in Harborfields and now live in another one of the neighboring districts.
