“Equity” in the real world….how do we feel about Simone Biles?
Because her routines are too difficult and if they scored her difficulty appropriately the field would be too far apart. So they are purposely not giving her full credit so that the playing field is more even.
This woman has worked for this and it’s not her fault that she put in the time, sacrifices, hard work, etc….
This is the future……
Everyone gets a trophy. No cuts on teams. Etc….

Oh wow. I am not following the Olympics honestly. I see things here and there but haven't watched.
It sounds like an "everyone gets a trophy" thing though which is ridiculous and that is why these kids can't deal with life.

It’s just not fair. She was motivated to do better than everyone and worked her butt off to be better. If I was her, why would I than even try to do these hard routines if they don’t mean anything? I would just perfect the easy stuff. And that is was equity leads to.
Think of the long term effects of this…. These super intelligent and motivated children/young adults. The innovation we will lose out on in the future. The athletes we will lose out on. The science we will lose out on. The entrepreneurship we will lose out on. Why work hard and sacrifice when it doesn’t give you any sort of reward.

I say F the Olympics.
Banning Sha’Carri for weed when it was legal in the state she was in, they banned a swim cap that many POCs use, they made it harder for a nursing mother pick either feeding her baby or the games, and so on.
The Olympics are problematic and I don’t watch.

As much as we don't agree, I agree with you about this. It is getting ridiculous and that is why the ratings have dropped.

Exactly. It is the same way with jobs. If everyone gets the same raise every year, what is the motivation to do better?

“Equity” in the real world….how do we feel about Simone Biles?
I'm curious where you are getting this info from? She didn't hit her routines across the board but still qualified on top and made every event final. I haven't seen any articles or heard announcers talk about what you're saying here at all. The talk has mostly been that she was off her game but can still come away with all the expected medals if she goes out and hits them in finals. She also wasn't doing some of her most difficult things bc it wasn't the finals.

I believe that this was written before she performed. She had an off day and didn't stick here landings. The fact that her routines have a higher degree of difficulty is what made her a top scorers despite her errors.

So you gets points for difficulty. But they are not giving her the full amount because they are too difficult. Google it, it’s out there on a ton of reputable sites.

That article is the first I've read about this. It does suck. When you say they're not giving her full credit though, I don't think that's quite accurate. The rules give everything a difficulty value so she's getting that. It's just that many think the difficulty values for some of her skills should be higher due to their inherent difficulty. Hopefully the IFG remedies that when they update their rules but in the meantime she at least knew going in what the skills would be scored at.
I think it's awesome that she's competing and dominating yet again so that she can continue to speak out about issues within the sport and push for change where it's needed. It sucks that she has to do that to begin with but she handles it well.

I am also disturbed about this but I think my reasons why are different from the OP's.
This has nothing to do with any attempt at "equity." The article I just skimmed had some quotes with some coded racism in it about black athletes' abilities. That's what it seems like is going on here. But it's not surprising at all.

I think it's disgraceful and if she is that much better than everyone else, then good for her! They should be protesting about this and pull out of the Olympics for unfair treatment.

Re: “Equity” in the real world….how do we feel about Simone Biles?
I I know she did make many errors on those difficult stunts.
On a different note how about the Norwegian women's beach handball team who got fined for not wearing the bikini bottom shorts? I think that's ridiculous. I have been watching the Olympics and watching the women's beach volleyball I don't even know how they play in those bottoms they're always picking their butts and they look very uncomfortable I would much rather wear the boy shorts that they chose to wear.

I can’t even believe this is a thing!! I haven’t looked into this much, but is there an actual reason as to why they HAVE to wear bikini bottoms?

She probably pulled out of team trials so she doesnt get an injury so she can focus on her individual competition.

Re: “Equity” in the real world….how do we feel about Simone Biles?
https://edition.cnn.com/2021/07/27/sport/simone-biles-tokyo-2020-olympics/index.html
Ariake Gymnastics Centre, Tokyo (CNN)Simone Biles withdrew from the women's team gymnastics final at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Tuesday, citing mental heath concerns as she attempts to protect "her body and mind."
After the final -- won by the the Russia Olympic Committee (ROC) -- Biles broke down in tears as she explained her decision. "Whenever you get in a high stress situation, you kind of freak out," the 24-year-old told reporters. "I have to focus on my mental health and not jeopardize my health and well-being." "It just sucks when you're fighting with your own head," she added. The gymnasts said those competing weren't "just athletes, we're people at the end of the day" and that Team USA is planning to have a "mental rest day" on Wednesday. Biles' emotional interview put the issue of mental health front and center of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Earlier on Tuesday, Naomi Osaka, who has also talked openly about her own mental health struggles, was knocked out of the women's Olympic tennis tournament. Initially the other Team USA members wanted her to continue competing, according to Biles. "I was like: I think the girls need to do the rest of the competition without me. They were like 'I promise you'll be fine, we watched you warm-up'. But I said 'no, I know I am going to be fine but I can't risk a medal for the team and I need to call it. "You usually don't hear me say things like that because I usually persevere and push through things, but not to cost the team a medal. So they were like: OK, if Simone says this, we need to take it pretty serious. I had the correct people around me to do that. Following Biles' withdrawal, the (ROC) went on to win gold, while Team USA took silver and Great Britain bronze "The impossible is possible" is how gymnast Angelina Melnikova described the ROC's victory, but it was Biles' psychological well-being that dominated the final's aftermath.

TOKYO — U.S. superstar gymnast Simone Biles, the greatest gymnast of all time, will not compete in the individual all-around gymnastics final at the Summer Olympics on Thursday.
The Olympic individual all-around is the sport's marquee individual event, and she won by a huge margin at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games.
She pulled out of the team final on Tuesday, saying she needed to take care of her mental health.
"After further medical evaluation, Simone Biles has withdrawn from the final individual all-around competition," USA Gymnastics said in a statement. ...
