Erin's diaper rash is back... this thing will NOT go away!! UGGHHHHHHHH
Ok, I posted about a month ago about my DD's rash and how it was getting bad. NOTHING would work... I have tried every diaper cream ointment that they sell, I have used bacitracin, I have tried the prescription creams, I even switched her formula to Lactose free (upon the pediatrician's recommendation) and nothing helped. I used washclothes instead of wipes- nothing. Then I switched to Huggies Sensitive Wipes and it seemed to go away, for about 2 days. Now it is back again. It's not chapped skin, or peeling, just red with some tiny red spots that does not hurt her at all. We are going on 2 months with this lingering rash and I can't take it anymore! In my last post, Tah-wee-zah recommended making my own ointment with vasoline and Gold Bond Powder, which DH is out buying now. So hopefully this works!!
Does anyone have any other tips or something I could try if this homemade ointment doesnt work?
I don't think that it's the diapers, as this rash is only on her va-jay jay really.

Ok, it's not yeast- the Dr looked at it when it first started and said it's not. I have tried the Aveeno and it didn't work. I have not tried the J&J with the yellow cap or the Mylanta mixture. I will try those if this ointment does not work. Thank you everyone for your suggestions!!

ds had the same problem and it also lasted 2+ months. sooooo annoying i know! we'll the dr. recommended using 1% cortizone cream and also prescribed an antibotic ointment (not for fungus or yeast...those didn't work.) i used the creams every other time i changed him. also try airing it out as long as possible (Messy i know) but we were lucky to be ging to aruba and i let ds go naked for extended periods of time and it went away in about 3 days.
gl!

my son has something similar... I have been fighting it for over a week and finally went to the doctor... it turned out to be yeast and he got special ointment for it (nystatin) and it is much better today!

My doc gave us a fantastic cream that worked wonders on ds it's called Vuision. Some insurances won't cover it and from what I understand it can be somwhat expensive, but so worth it. I used it three days and his rash was completely gone.

Posted by dottiemchugh In my last post, Tah-wee-zah recommended making my own ointment with vasoline and Gold Bond Powder, which DH is out buying now. So hopefully this works!!
My MIL's pediatrician recommended this to her over 40 years ago when he knew talc powder was the way to go but the dust was harmful to the babies. So, hmmmmm.... how to get the talc powder on them w/o the dust???? Answer: mix it with Vaseline to make a paste.
She has used it, all of her neighbors (it was a new development and everyone had babies) used it, my SIL's, their friends in 2 states... dozens and dozens of people. She makes up a batch for everyone having a baby. She called it "Grandma's Miracle Diaper Creme>"
Everyone who uses it never goes back to using anything else. My family still uses it for rashes even on the adult and teenagers.
It's messy to mix... get a big bowl, dump the entire vat of Vaseline in, keep adding Gold Bond until you get a grey paste the consistancy of the Vaseline, then put it back into the Vaseline container.
One benefit is your hands are REALLY moisturized after it
If it doesn't work, the problem is not diaper rash.

WAIT!!!
I just re-read your post.
Is it only on her labia? It could be an allergic reaction to acidic foods.
It's very rare but I had it as a young girl
If I had orage juice, cranberry sauce at Thanksgiving, anything with a high acidity then the area got really red... no peeling skin etc.... just red.
Has she had any new acidic foods in her diet?
If it went away and then it came back she may have had the food then a few days later had it again.
Again, not sure if that is it. You might want to investigate that route and speak to the ped.
BTW: I outgrew it in a couple of years.

I don't think that it has to do with that. She is only on formula, I am not BFing, and is just starting cereal, and this has been happening for 2 months. So I don't think so.
It seems to be helping already! I changed her before and it seems to be less red..so lets hope it continues this way!! THANK YOU AGAIN!

Re: Erin's diaper rash is back... this thing will NOT go away!! UGGHHHHHHHH
DD has the same problem in the area but it is also around her anus. I thought it was food related but I don't give her acidic foods and I don't eat acidic foods. I really haven't found anything that works either. Except DD does crab herself and trys to scratch but my DS did the samething at the same age so I have no idea if it is normal before or not.
I did buy Aveeno oatmeal bath and I let her sit in it and I did notice it isn't as red afterwards. I am starting to think it is the diapers. I use Huggies but for a period I was using pampers and I don't recall her having this problem.

Maybe I should switch to be on the safe side. Darnit- I just bought a new pack and opened it today! I am just getting so fed up with this-- it will look like it's gettng better, then go away, and BAM it's back slowly 2 days later, and then its fully back. I will get the bath too if this cream does not work. THANKS!

I am not sure how old she is but it just dawned on me that it could be teething related. DD is about to cut 2 teeth I think any day now so I will let you know if it goes away.

She is 5 months, and I don't think that she is teething, as this has been going on since she was 3 months! But you never know...
