Evening gown length
I'm going to a concert / opera in July and the dress code says: evening gown, black tie, dark suits, or regional costume. I have a regional costume, but it's not traditional enough for this event, apparently.
So I'm going to go with the evening gown. Does this mean it must be floor length? Or can I just get away with something past the knee? It may be hot in July and there will be no a/c.
ETA: When I search for a dress with the word they used in the description, I get all different lengths. I'm wondering if it is a translation thing?
ETA 2: OK, got my answer. Apparently, it doesn't have to be a gown. The word means evening wear. The English translation needs to be better, lol.

To me, evening gown means a floor length gown

Ugh, I was hoping that wouldn't be the case. I'm not a floor length person. I'm looking at pics from this last year and I am getting mixed pics- some floor length, some to the knee, but all conservative.

ETA: an evening dress is different than an evening gown IMO.

Hi, thanks. I google the German word (Abendkleid, which kind of is evening wear, gown and dress all in one) and I get some short dresses and long. I think I'll ask a colleague.
