Exactly 4 months...........

What scares me is how fast the school year is flying! I'm NOT complaining but it's just crazy how fast time flies sometimes!!! This school year in many ways feels like it just started!!!!!

You know, years ago, when I started teaching, I remember starting a countdown with my best friend until the end of the year (this was after spring break... I really don't ever think I've known how many days were left before then), and someone pointed out that we were wishing our lives away. And I thought about it and realized they were right.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I love vacation just as much as the next guy (so to speak), but I love my job... and I know that this year, at least, I'm really going to miss my classes when it's over.

That means 3 months until I go out on maternity leave The end of the year cannot come soon enough for me!

Believe me, I even enjoyed this impromptu long weekend but I love my students. I feel so lucky to have a job that I love and enjoy doing! After 10 years of teaching I am still excite about it. The vacation time IS a great perk, but it's not what it's all about

I love my students too. I have them the second year in a row. Yet, I am still looking forward to having two months to relax! My job is VERY stressful and knowing there's an end in sight keeps me motivated!

YAYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!! I cant wait until Summer vacation!! I have been stressed since the 1st day of school! I cant wait!!! I just cant believe how fast this year has gone by!!

I am sensitive to the image that teachers work part time or do it for the Summers off I probably feel this way because my mom was a teacher and I saw how much work she bought home with her and how much she genuinely cared about her students and classroom. My MIL always says things about teachers getting all this time off

To the rest of the world, event to nonteachers on LIF, to constantly count down to breaks and wish for days off really gives the worst image of teachers. We all know how stressful it is and how you really need the time to get reinvigorated, but those outside don't understand that. We are lucky to have this great perk of time off, but I hope outsiders realize it's not why we became teachers and certainly not the greatest reward of teaching either.

hmm never thought about that. I must be really destroying the rep of teachers with my frequent posts about summer.. this was the last countdown I will ever post!

I love what I do....but I also love having time off because I work so hard during the year. I work through my preps and lunch periods at work because I want to be prepared and be the best teacher I can be. I think a lot of you guys are coming down too hard on pennycat and if you don't like a post- you can move on.

I was actually going to comment on the fact that this is a TEACHER board..if someone lurks on here, shouldn't they get a full picture of what goes on in teachers' worlds? There are more days that I love what I do than when I have a hard day, but when I think about it, there is NOTHING else I'd rather do..that being said, there are challenging years that make you live vacation to vacation for whatever reason...

On another note...if you read the PARENTING board, it's not always sunshine and roses there, either...people are dropping their kids off at daycare to have a free day and are getting drama because of that...this is a harmless countdown..if you don't want to partake, DON'T, but don't rain on someone else's parade or means of coping...

Well, we're all entitled to our opinions. We're all entitled to share them, too. I truly don't think anyone was raining on anyone else's parade. I also don't think anyone on here is saying we don't all love our breaks. And I really don't think if one person says they don't count down that it's going to stop anyone else from doing it if they want to. To each his/her own, obviously.

Unlike most other jobs, our days off and breaks almost always coincide- so they are going to be a topic of conversation. So of course they'll come up on a chat board. If you look, on any given day, MOST posts are about things related to our actual work, unless it's going to snow. Then those of us who work in NYC are usually expected to make a choice between our job and getting into a pileup on the way to work, so we'll want a day off.

Look, one of my favorite days of the month at my school was the last day. The school calendar was stapled in individual months on the bulletin board in the faculty room. On the last day of the month during a prep period my department chair would march up to the the board, rip down the month, hold it up high and march it to the garbage can and tear it up and throw it in while we onlookers clapped and cheered.

However, there were those teachers on a *perpetual* countdown--and PennyCat, I'm not on this board enough to know whether you do this or not, so I'm not referring to you--and I would think, "If you're always in such a hurry for it to be over, then just leave." Like it or not, that is the impression it frequently gives. And I do agree with others who say it can give teachers a bad rap.

Now that I'm a parent as well as a teacher, I would be REALLY unhappy if I learned my DD's teacher was on a perpetual countdown. So to those counter-downers , keep on doing what you do, but realize that it could be taken the wrong way--ESPECIALLY on a public website.

But above all, you know who the worst are...those teacher HATERS who countdown to the end of OUR summer breaks! Those people can really shove their countdowns.

I'm all about the coutdown. Especially this year. If that makes me look bad on here, oh well. This year in particular has been absolute hell for me with my classes & I can't wait to put it past me. Bring on summer & new beginnings!!!!!
