I love my students too. I have them the second year in a row. Yet, I am still looking forward to having two months to relax! My job is VERY stressful and knowing there's an end in sight keeps me motivated!

No one is saying our jobs aren't stressful... I think you're preaching to the choir here in terms of that. ALL of our jobs are very stressful because we're all teachers. Maybe it's just me, but vacations aren't necessarily my main motivator. For me, they just can't be.

I'm not sure where Pennycat ever indicated that vacations are her main motivator. She simply started a countdown to the end of school. Hey, I love my class and I love my job, but I love my DS too and I can't wait for 2 months off to spend with him. Pennycat, you are obviously a caring and loving teacher (at least from the way you post). Bring on the countdown!!

I'm a big fan of the count downs myself. Keep them coming!

We all work so hard and give so much because we love our students. Of course we look forward to resting, nothing wrong with that.

I'm all about the coutdown. Especially this year. If that makes me look bad on here, oh well. This year in particular has been absolute hell for me with my classes & I can't wait to put it past me. Bring on summer & new beginnings!!!!!

I hadn't looked at this thread, since I was also told early in my career, by a veteran teacher, to not wish your life away, but I still get excited for vacations (as do the people who post on the vacation board) and snow days (except this last one!)

One aspect that really separates teachers from the rest of the working world is that there is an end: a new class(es), new students, graduation of older students, etc. Other jobs don't usually have that end and new cycle and maybe nonteachers don't think the same way as we in education do with this particular schedule.
