Re: Excessed - Question
Personally, I would take everything. We had a principal that was trying to get someone to leave their lessons and she stood up and said, "but they are MY lessons. Lessons I created"
Think of it as intellectual property.

Re: Excessed - Question
My district upstate can collect our lesson plans at any time- they are their property- not mine because they were developed while I was being paid/working hours. Check with your union 1st I would say.
If anything, take copies and leave the originals if asked.

Re: Excessed - Question
two years ago i took everything..i find the whole process of sharing lessons ridiculous at times, bc honestly i work SO hard to develop what i do, and i have yet to see anyone else put the amount of effort into things that i teach that i do

Re: Excessed - Question
I'm sorry to hear that. How upsetting
I would take all the work you've done with you. Why should you leave any of it? People can make their own lessons, just like you did! You're not obligated to share it with anyone.

I'm so sorry
I'd take everything. Not that this is the same thing, but when I went out on an extended maternity leave, I "liberated" everything that I created or refined over time.

I teach Living Environment.
Today, I am going to talk to the union president. Times like these make me wonder why I even bother paying dues to this organization since they do nothing.... He wrote an email to everyone saying that concessions will do nothing It frustrates me that they are not trying to do anything to save the teachers being laid off. They are getting rid of so many programs at my school it is unbelievable.
Just wanted to add that I'm involved in my union- and my district is planning on laying off teachers again this year. There isn't anything the union can do about that; that's up to the budget/board of ed ( and I guess in the city the DOE/Bloomberg). But you pay dues to make sure you have your rights defended if you are called into investigation, get due process, tenure rights etc. You are feeling upset and rightfully so but be informed about what a union can and cannot do for its members.

Re: Excessed - Question
Anytime I have left a district (4 of them) I have always taken ALL of my stuff with me to the next place! So you are not wrong for taking your materials.
