Excessive drinking water. **update**
I am flipping out.. Taking Lola to the vet in the am.. I read alittle about it ..
Diabeties, cushing disease. kidney failure.. This cant be good..
I am not going to be ok if any of these are the answer.. I am not happy with any vets lately .. I am in the lynbrook eastrockaway area .. Hate Crawford . Sunrise vets in RVC is OK .. Any really good ones you can suggest that wont run me through the mill.. I expect urine tests and blood work..
UPDATE**** URINARY TRACT INFECTION!!!! Thank you JESUS!!!! Wow was I thinking the worst!!! I dont think I am going to be able to handle a real problem.. I had my Dog dead and buried, This is sick!!!

Re: Excessive drinking water
Hey I am sorry you are going through this. We had to put Toby to sleep b/c of cushings. We noticed that he drank a lot, looked like he was gaining weight but it was the pot belly they refer to. His eyes where always bloodshot looking & he ended up losing his eyesight. Anyway it took our vet awhile to diagnose him. There is a blood test that they do to check levels of cortisol (I think)for the life of my I do not remember what it is but its $$$. There are 2 places that a tumor can be located that's part of cushings. The kidney & pituitary gland. Believe it or not the one on they pituitary gland it the better of the 2 b/c it can be treated with meds. We took him for an ultra sound to confirm if there was one on his kidney & it wasn't. They treat it with drugs that are used to treat chemo in adults they are $$. I will try to find the name of them if you need it & I got the best price from 1800 meds. They come with their own horrible side effects as if you give them to much it can damage the myelin sheath around the brain & you have to be careful handling them. In our case Toby only lasted a few months b/c we couldn't stand to see him in pain. I feel though if it had been caught sooner that he would have had a better chance. Don't let your vet blow you off & I'm sorry I don't have more info as I have forgotten alot of what we did for Toby.

OMG I am so so sorry for your loss .. How old was Toby?? What breed? i have a Maltese.. I wonder if its common in this breed? So sad I am crying ...
Please was there anything else you noticed besides the water drinking and blood shot eyes? I dont think she has the blood shot eyes.. She does have alergies so it could be that .. I am so scared..

Re: Excessive drinking water
Thank you. We think he was about 5 when he passed, he was a rescue & a terrier chihuahua mix of some sort. The other thing we noticed was that he wanted to eat all the time & eat anything he could get his mouth on. He even ate the corners of several books on me. lol. He also was not as playful as he used to be but we think that was because he was losing his sight.
I know its hard but try not to get to sad about your pup yet as it could be anything & something very simple. Just don't let your vet lead you to believe its nothing as ours did.

for lola!!!
it's a little further from you, but dr. brew at bellerose animal hospital is absolutely amazing! their office is right off the jamica ave/jericho turnpike exit off the cross island so it's not a bad drive.

OMG I have been up since 1am and no drinking .. I stopped giving her a new treat I had bought and I think it may have been the problem.. I am going to monitor her tom am and I think it was a yam and duck treat I had been giving her in her food (its the only way she will eat) has to have a treat in her food .. Please heavenly Father let it be ok..
ETA 7:34 am no water yet!! I really really think it was these treats now!!! OMG I hope no damage was done !!!!I threw the bag out I will get the brand later!!! I really think so but I am not positive yet .. I need more time.

Maybe they are too salty or dry? Hopefully that's just it.
For ex, I was giving my dogs greenies. Oddly enough they bothered my female dog's anal glands....it took me about 6 mths to figure it out.
Keep us posted!!! That's great that she wasn't drinking alot last night.

Re: Excessive drinking water
If you need a great vet, we LOVE Dr. Glenda Wexler at Broadway Vet in Hewlett. We've been going there for 5 years. Sunrise Vet was a NIGHTMARE compared to Wexler.
I'm betting that it was the treats. Lilly is the same way when we give her something new.

Re: Excessive drinking water
for Lola! It could be a type of tick, or it could be a thyroid problem. Those are two possibilities.
We really like Quality Vet in Elmont. They aren't the cheapest vet around, but they aren't the most expensive either, and they are worth the price.

I agree, I've used them in the past and they are great. I have also used East Rockaway Veterinary Hospital on Atlantic Avenue and find them to be great as well.

YES YES YES!!!! We took Chewie there and they were so helpful and kind to us and him throughout his elder years and his passing. Our new pup Ozzie goes there as well, as does my in-laws Wheaten. HIGHLY recommend!!!
