explaining death to a 2 year old
There is a good possibility that we are going to lose our beloved dog, sable. He is very sick and the vets believe the end is near. DH and I are so distraught about this and we dont know how we would explain this to Sydney.

Re: explaining death to a 2 year old
we lost our cat when we got back from vacation had 2 and now had one. we told olivia the cat went to heaven. and that she he was sick. we then got a stuffed doll that looked like him so we could say gizmo is always with us. i tried explaining that when god was ready he takes us to heaven but she didnt understand it. i told her he went to heaven and was watching us from the sky. she seemed fine with it.

Re: explaining death to a 2 year old
I am so so sorry!!!
I didn't have to explain anything to Jack when our dog died (he was only four months) but my entire family was close with Molly so they needed to explain it to their kids (ages range from 3-7)
I know that they explained that Molly was in doggy heaven and that she was with great grandma (we just lost our grandmother a few months earlier) and that she was watching over us now. They explained that she was now one of our angels - and when they say their prayers at night - they pray for our angels watching over us (and would also include Molly)
I know that 2 is still a different age than 3 so I'm not really sure the right route to go with that - just wanted to tell you what my family did!
