Exterior Door Locks
OK - so first thing we need to do is change the locks on the house, obviously. Can you give me an idea of how much you spent? The style I like - I'm seeing for about $160 or so. It's the style with a nice handle on front and a deadbolt on the inside.
Kind of like this -
Thanks!

Re: Exterior Door Locks
We changed all the locks on our house, 3 outside doors, but didn't change the actual doorknobs/handles.
I didn't previously know this, but if you have the key to the lock, you can take it to lowe's (i'm guessing a hardware store too) and they will reconfigure the lock for a completely new key. So now, we use only 1 key to open all 3 doors to our house (bottom lock and deadbolt locks). And it only cost $5 per lock. We had 8 so it cost us $40. This was a huge money saver, we thought we would be buying several new locks. I love Lowe's! I've had lots of great experiences there.
Just in case this helps.

That does help! We only have one lock. So you're saying we can just bring in the key (which we have) and they'll change it and it will still fit into the existing lock? That would be great!

Re: Exterior Door Locks
We obviously couldn't rekey the locks, since we added two brand-new exterior doors. Plus, the old ones were... well.... old, and the rest of the house was brand-new.
We went with the Kwikset brand. Great reviews, and we liked the styles and options they had. Kwikset has some DIY rekeyable locks. I'm not sure how they work, but you can take any Kwikset key, and rekey all the locks in your house the same. You can also change all the locks whenever you want without changing the locks. Just change the key, and reset the locks.
We have 8 locks on the outside of the house, but only 1 key....

Thanks.... They are FeatherRiver doors from HD http://frdoors.com/ .
Fiberglass, so they won't discolor, splinter, fade, etc, but they look just like wood.
