Eye Candy...Little Girls' Costumes

Read this article in Newsweek about costumes for little girls getting racier & racier every year. Do you think this is so...and why?

Girls' Costumes

You thtink it's based on society today? Maybe we don't see this as sexy?
Are we just prudes?

Re: Eye Candy...Little Girls' Costumes

Little kids nowadays want to grow up so fast. I don't like the idea of "sexy" costumes for kids. Kids need to stay kids for awhile.

I think they do get racier every year. I think it's natural that a tween-pre-teen wants to "grow-up". The only difference is now they're making costumes & clothes that way.

Out of the costumes posted, the witch is the only one I find unecessarily racy. It's a pretty tame french maid outfit and pirate costume.

I saw little girls dressed in those costumes at my son's Halloween parade. I can tell you that they looked a lot different than the girls on the package. It's the make-up & the pose that makes it more racy.

In fact, the little girl in the Miss Behavin costume looked adorable.

If I had a little girl I wouldn't let her wear the pirate or the maid costume but the other 2 look ok to me.

None of the girls that came to my house were wearing "sexy" costumes and most of them were preteens.

ITA! Not even just the costumes but in general, you see thes 11 or 12 year old little girls walking around in belly shirts and tight jeans with all this makeup on. My dad would have locked me in my room if i tried to leave the house like that. IMO Kids are definately trying to grow up way too fast these days.

Re: Eye Candy...Little Girls' Costumes

Just the idea of a little girl dressing up as a French Maid worries me, same as the Miss Behavin' one. It's the concept, not the modesty - or even lack of - the costume.

Re: Eye Candy...Little Girls' Costumes

Are the costume inappropriate? They can be, depending on how far you go with them. I don't like that the pirate costume shoes midriff, I think thats too much.
The witch one would be ok if the girl was wearing black tights under the socks, so they didn't look like thigh highs.
The french maid? Like someone else said, that is not appropriate for a little girl because a french maid had very sexual connotations.
The jailbird one is cute, I don't see anything wrong with it. She actually looks like an 80's girl if it wasn't for the chains and the little hat.

Thank God I have boys.

I MIGHT let my daughter wear the jailbird outfit.. and maybe the pirate wench or witch if she covered her navel and wore leggings instead of hose/bare legs. But the French Maid outfit is INSANELY provocative.

Re: Eye Candy...Little Girls' Costumes

OMG! I just had this conversation last night. I was driving on a road that cuts through the center of my town. Tons of kids were out. There were SOO many young girls between the ages of 10-13 with the forgive me most whorish outfitts I'd ever seen. SHORT, SHORT skirts that you could basically see the bottom of their butt cheeks (God forbid they had to bend over for somethign) and tiny little tank tops with no jacket. INSANE!!!

Who is letting their young daughters parade around town like that?!?!? Boy things have changed in the 20 years since I was that age!!! Chat Icon

I mentioned it to my DH when I was flipping through catalogs for costumes. I am not that happy with the girls costumes. I mentioned they looked a little too sexy!

So funny, I was at a kids Halloween party on Sunday and there was a girl dressed in the 1st outfit. I thought to myself who would let their daughter wear that and what is it anyway? Too be honest i thought it was something the girl put together and was trying to be a little too grown up with the top. I have 2 daughters and I will happily dress them as princesses for as long as I can!

There were a good few girls at my sons school that were dressed to sexy for the age. His school only goes to 6th grade. So that meants they had to be all of 12.

Re: Eye Candy...Little Girls' Costumes

I think the only "appropriate" costume is the jailbird. I remember when my stepson was in Middle School and he told me that some of the girls "dress like sluts." That disturbed me on so many different levels...the fact that he knew what a "slut" was at 11 and the fact that these girls are dressing the way they are. Its not just Halloween, its everything!

Re: Eye Candy...Little Girls' Costumes

I think a couple of them are a little too sexy for pre-teen girls, but most are not that bad.

I also think these costume companies can try to sell whatever they want, but who is buying these costumes and allowing them to wear them... the parents!
