Eye contact?

When did your DC start making good eye contact? I feel like James looks everywhere but at us. He's rather be looking up or to the side with his head turned.

I know that's he's very young still, I'm just wondering i this is anything to be concerned about or am I being silly for worrying about this already? Chat Icon

Re: Eye contact?

Mason started doing the same exact thing... DH and I were laughing b/c our dog does this and we thought great... first our dog won't look us in the face and now our son. BTW... he looks at us a lot more, but still always look around us. I have to really entertain him to keep his interest.

Takes after his daddy... when I'm talking to him and the TV is on then he's easily distracted. Mason will watch the TV over me if it's on. I have to face him the other way to get him to eat Chat Icon

I'll be honest, Ann only started doing it consistently recently (she's 16 weeks) and I never know if things she doesn't do as soon as everyone's babies on here are because she was almost 4 weeks early.

My DD only started maybe at 11/12 weeks...

I remember when she was about 2 months thinking the same thing....she wants to look at the lights, the dogs, the wall, picture on the wall....everything but us! Chat Icon

Re: Eye contact?

KJ does make eye contact if you call his attention but most times, he still looks to the left or the right Chat Icon

Re: Eye contact?

Christopher did the same thing until about 6 months old.......he would deliberately turn his head away -- especially if my face was too close to his......he likes to look at people at more of a distance.

Re: Eye contact?

Ooh, good post. My almost 3 week old doesn't look at me either. He'll look at the boring white ceiling or off to the side, but rarely at me.

Seeing the responses, I guess it's normal and takes time.

Someone wondered if their DC did things late because they were born 4 weeks early. I was worried about my DS' eyes (I saw them skipping vs moving with fluid motion) and so at 6 days old we took him to a pediatric opthamologist just to be sure. He said DS' eyes were completely normal and that babies eyes don't move smoothly until 4 months "corrected" age, so since my DS was born 3 weeks early, his eyes won't have fluid motion until 4 months 3 weeks. HTH.
