goop in the eye
DS still has the mucous coming out of his eyes. We are wiping his eyes on a regular basis. How long does this last. He is one week old today!

Re: goop in the eye
DD had it for 5-6 months one day it just went away...from what ive heard on these boards when I posted about it many many times it goes away a lot sooner for most babies!!!! if its a greeny colour you may want to see the ped and mention it they may have something for it!
btw its most likely blocked tear ducts which is pretty common!

Re: goop in the eye
It could be a blocked tear duct. Have you had it looked at?

We went to the pediatrician for his first visit on Tuesday. We are going back on Saturday. I will ask her then. ON Tuesday she did say to massage the eye lids and I have been doing that.

Re: goop in the eye
DD had the same. our Ped gave us drops that we had to put in her eyes a few times a day and it cleared right up.
What color is the goop?

Its yellowish and crusty kinda. Yea, that's what DD had. It *could* be a clogged duct like OP mentioned.
Nothing serious...just bring it up to the ped again. The drops worked like magic for us.
Massage the bridge of DC nose...closest to the duct, like right in that corner area (if that makes sense)

Thanks, I will. The massage is what the ped told us to do and I have been doing that a little. I will try to be more dilligent about it!

There really is nothing more you can do, unfortunately. My nephew had it for almost a year...right before the word "operation on the tear duct" went into play. It usually clears up on it's own...keep it clean and see if they'll rx the drops But don't worry....all is OK
