While I am having a great time reconnecting...I don't befriend someone that I hardly knew at all or wasn't friendly with or have no intention fo becoming friendly with.

Maybe if you delete those people, you will feel better.

I agree, try deleteing the people from your HS past.

I like facebook because I like to be nosy and see what everyone from HS is up to heheheh

I think it's kind of funny. All the people I wasn't "friends" with in HS or would you say the "cool kids" are all friending me, complimenting me and trying to be friends. It's hillarious...and I thought they were so cool for all those years....and it turns out we are all just human! Chat Icon

I found myself revisiting at least one thing that I would have preferred to forget, but at the same time I have reconnected with a couple people I otherwise would not have been able to track down! It's been worth it in that way.

It's what you make of it. I don't have a lot of friends because I don't want to be a "collector"; I have a friend who has 4x the friends I have but who adds anyone who breathed the same air for ten minutes at some point in the last 30 years. I prefer to only connect with people I really want to hear from, and I see that as a positive.

I'm sorry it's making you feel that way. I love seeing all my old friends, but I will say that I have a few old friends I have not become friends with on FB because it's not worth the time or effort. Chat Icon

A little bit of a hijack, but T, do you think the good outweighs the bad?

I have a friend who has been BEGGING me to join. I am thinking about it, because there is a period of my life where I was in a program where I made a lot of friends who I have since lost touch with and it would be cool to reconnect with them.

Is it really awkward when say, someone finds you and asks you to be their friend, and you refuse, but you have mutual friends in common?

that is exactely why i haven't made an account on facebook. i wasn't friends with those people back in high school because they were idiots so why would i want them to know what's going on in my life now? i say delete your account or just delete everyone off of it besides your important people. don't let a website get you down~

I agree completely!!!

I love facebook for that reason, High School wasn't that great for me, but I love to show everyone how great my life is, and I do think my life is great (even if it isn't)

Show them how far you have come and shine! Post gorgeous pictures of yourself doing glamorous things! Thats the best thing!

Honestly, you just have to be selective with who you choose to be friends with. I don't accept a friend request from just anyone.. i have to like them in 'real life' too! I see all sorts of people from HS on there, but i could care less about them.
I have reconnected with a few people on there, but i feel like its all superficial.. i mean if not for facebook, would we have gone to the trouble to search each other out? probably not
but its harmless as long as you filter what you accept and what info you put out there

don't let it get you down, its not worth it! focus on how good your life is now

Re: Facebook-related depression

i sort of feel that way at times..

i even got dissed- i tried to make plans with old high school friends who seemed gung ho... but then never jumped on a date.

after trying 2x to get together, its clear to me that they have no interst in reconnecting.

it hurt a littel but it is what it is. it remionds me again why we did not stay in touch.

It's not depression but it does amaze me how the hatred for some of these girls comes back just from remembering they exist.

Re: Facebook-related depression

Sorry you feel this way... the reason I feel depressed on Facebook is it feels like I was in HS literally like a year ago and time goes WAY too fast.

Re: Facebook-related depression

I love Facebook. I reconnected with HS friends that I would talk to all the time and have a lot of LIF Mommies on there too.
I do not ask or accept friend requests from people I didn't really speak to back then or even speak with now.
I know it's easy to say, but, hard to do... let the past be the past. Facebook should not be depressing.Chat Icon

Re: Facebook-related depression

I would delete it or not have started one in the 1st place if I did not want to revisit high school or the people I once knew. I mean it is, essentially, a place to re-connect with former classmates. Almost like a year book. Why did you join if it was a painful time in your life?
