failed FET...embryo quality issue? now what?
OK so long story short....Secondary infertility. Fresh IVF last June transfer 2 BFP,one sticks (with 6 frosties AA quality), miscarried @ 8wks...all tests normal. FET cycle November transfered 2 frosties about 2.5 wks ago BFN Now Dr B calls and says the embies were not "great" quality. Each Embryologist rates differently this one calls mine a B...PS first transfer fresh IVF @ Baltzofin, 2nd FET transfer @ Gramercy Fertility. My Q....if not "great" quality then why transfer...shouldnt I have the option of thawing out another set to chk quality??? So not only did he transfer not " great" quality, upon start of thaw he claims one straw shattered when withdrawn form tank, so we lost 2 embies!!! So now Dr B says he would not use the remaining frosties, he wants to start a fresh IVF GRRrrrrr! I feel like I wasted a cycle! And that I have been mislead!!! I am out of pocket and now out of money I have not spoken further with Dr B...deciding on composing an email or mking an appt to discuss and address my thoughts! ANy thoughts???

Yes..my thoughts are that I would want an explanation that makes sense. How in the world could the first lab claim that your embies were AA and then Dr. B later tell you that they are not worthy of transfer and now you need to pay for a fresh IVF? It's the lab he sent you to, so he needs to explain this. Yes..there can be differences between embryologist grading..but not enough to go from AA to...they are not worthy of transfer. That's nonsense. Also..WHAT the hell about the current lab losing two of your embies because the straw shattered!! I think I would ask to be compensated ins some way. That is just lab error.

This is insane! You should definitley be compesated! Stories like this make me so mad. They are the reason I'm terrified of IVF (also OOP). I hope you get some resolution and compensation. I'm so sorry this happened to you.

Here is the problem with so called "good eggs" it means nothing!!!!!!!! Their is NO way to tell if they are chromosonally good unless you do PGD or CGH on them before you transfer
sorry I can't spell

While this is true..this has absolutely NOTHING to do with this issue. Embryo grading is completely unrelated to whether or not an embryo is normal or abnormal. You can't tell whether an embryo is competent just by looking at it. No Dr can be held accountable for that unless you do genetic testing. However, there is no excuse for having told a patient that their embryos are grade AA and then later that they are not worthy of transfer.

Re: failed FET...embryo quality issue? now what?
Embys that are frozen don't always thaw well and their grading can change...however, they should have been using vitrification and I cannot believe it would be so different. You really need to sit down with him. If you are OOP I would try to do a phone call (in office will be a consult fee). And I would definitely get a better explanation on why two embys were lost like that. I have been around the IF world for almost 5 years and I have never heard of that happening. I am so sorry for what you are going through. We have been OOP for most of this and we have spent a lot of money with nothing to show for it. But I always think, well we can make more money in the future.

Re: failed FET...embryo quality issue? now what?
So after long deliberation I have made an appt to see my doc before years end to discuss all of the above! I hope I can hold it together at my appt, I am an emotional reck about the whole thing...I keep trying to tell myself "what is meant to be will be" but in my heart of hearts I feel like something wasnt done right and I feel like I signed my life away with consents that there is no way I can do anything about anything!!! So frustrating! Thank u all I will update ya!
