Family member entered DS's pic in contest without asking!
DH's cousin took a pic of DS from our FB account and entered it online in some contest where the winner is to be featured in some catalogue or something. She didn't ask permission and the only reason we even know is because she posted it as a comment under the pic in FB. I am livid and ready to rip her a new one!!!!
DH doesn't think its a big deal, he thinks its cute, and he doesn't want me to confront her and 'make trouble', especially since the chances of actually winning are low. I don't think thats the point! WWYD? Am I overreacting? I am soooo mad!

I'd be ****** & this is a huge pet peeve of mine. I hate when outsiders interfere in my life with my kids & husband. If you wanted to enter DC, you would have.
My SIL & MIL used to steal my FB pics so I started a new album that they are blocked from.

Reason #1 I don't post pics of my kids on the internet -
ANYONE can access them and do whatever they want w/o my permission -
That said, I'd ABSOLUTELY say something to her - regardless of whether or not you care if he was entered in teh contest, she did it w/o your permission - that is NOT her child, it's NOT her decision to just go and spash his face all over the world !!

If I post pics on FB I am going to assume that family members might steal it to post on their own walls to show their friends. I'm okay with that. But entering the pic into the contest without even running it by you is very disrespectful and I would be upset - not flaming mad, just irritated, and I'd say something. I actually have before - my sister announced that my DS was born and posted his first pics before I was even out of recovery! I said something to her nicely, she apologized, and that was that. Just be nice about it, that's all  If she gives you a hard time and/or doesn't think it was a big deal then it's okay to be a b!tch about it and block her from seeing your pics.

I family member did this to us too. Except we have no idea what photo of our DS was submitted. She told us after the fact, and acted like she was doing us a favor. I was NOT happy about it.

You are NOT overreacticng. That is violating your child's privacy. I would be furious and I would demand she take it down adn I would go and contact the contest and let them know the entry is unauthorized! Man this person would be SO toast if it was my kid!

YOU are entitled to feel the way you do. It's YOUR child.
ME, nah. I would not be upset over this. But that is me.
I think you can say something to this person without starting something. It's all in the delivery. Just tell her that you were flattered that she thought DC had a chance of winning the contest, but int he future you would appreciate that she don't enter photo's of your DC in contests WITHOUT your permission.

If your DS won the contest it's very likely he'd be disqualified if they found out you didn't enter him yourself. You may want to say that to the family member to let them know they're wasting their own time and energy.

I would be mad but at the same time I don't think she had a malicious intent. Sometimes people think they are doing something nice and they don't think about what they are really doing

MIL did that at least once, then apologized when I said I didn't want it. Then she tried to do it again so I told her that it would be no use as I would not claim the prize if my kid won a contest that I hadn't agreed to enter him in. For all I know she still enters DS's photos but I hope not.

I'd be annoyed but not make a huge deal about it. I would prob say something like: I appreciate you thinking of DS and entering him in the contest. In the future please inform DH and I of the contest and allow us to make the decision on if we are going to enter and which picture to use.

thats what I thought too.
I would absolutely say something, then I would contact the company having the contest, and tell them that someone entered your child without your permission and DEMAND that they return whatever pictures they have, and destroy whatever information they have.

Personally, I would be seriously pi$$ed off!! I don't think anyone has any right whatsoever to use your child's photo without permission. (Unless they are printing one to display in their home.......that is fine) If it were me, I would rip her a new one up, down, left, and right. Not to mention, god knows about half these so called "modeling contests". Who knows where your child's picture can end up. Scary.
