I've heard this too, and it freaked me out too! I mean, I know it's not tidy down there afterwards, but I didn't know it would be a bloodshed!

Re: Fancy PJ's for Hospital
that stinks! so what to we wear! i don't want people visiting me while i'm wearing a tent. I've visited friends in the hospital and they had on nice pjs and robes. Most recent one had cream color pjs and she had a csection?? hmm

It's not really blood everywhere, but you will be bleeding heavily. It's really the heaviest period ever. My second night after having Sarah I slept very soundly and soaked through everything, so I was glad I wore stuff I didn't care about tossing.

Re: Fancy PJ's for Hospital
I wouldn't say blood everywhere but you do bleed alot and it may go through your pretty fancy PJ's. You will also be wearing huge pad and maybe even an ice pack.

Re: Fancy PJ's for Hospital
I wore sweats and a t-shirt. Ones that I didn't care about.
If you have a vaginal birth you are only there 2 days anyway.
Bring something comfy that you can toss if you need to.
For the first 24 hours you should stick with the gown as they come and check on you alot.

Re: Fancy PJ's for Hospital
I recommend wearing tight fitted pants, like yoga pants. This helps keep the pad in place. Also, as long as you change your pad all day long you wont be bleeding everywhere. I wore my regular robe.

I agree w/ your friend. It's not worth having beautiful pjs! I wore tanks and gauchos (it was Sept) and it was the most comfortable outfit!

My hospital didn't provide the guaze underpants - some do. The ice pack helps with swelling and brings relief.

Re: Fancy PJ's for Hospital
I was petrified from everyone telling me about the heavy bleeding...Maybe because I delivered C-section, but it wasnt that bad. I didnt leak once.
I do suggest dark colors just in case...
ETA: make sure you take hom etxra pads form the hospital!!! those are the longest pads I have ever seen!!

A lot of the hospitals won't let you wear pants because they need to check you so frequently that it's bothersome to remove pants.

Re: Fancy PJ's for Hospital
Those icepack pads where the best along with some tucks and numbing ointment!
I don't know about any other moms who gave birth Vaginally, but the 1st day after i gave birth i was a walking bio hazard.
I changed my pad every 1-2 hours and even then when i got up a couple times blood came running down my leg, it was gross and awful. Like 2.5 hours of pushing wasn't enough.
I wore the hospital gown, and the mesh undies they provide, i brought my own stuff but i didn't want to mess them!

Same for me.... The gauze undies were the best thing bc I didn't want to use my own stuff...
I bought my own PJs but wore the hospital gown the whole time I was there. I just put on my robe when I had visitors.
even though they gice you pads, I reccommend bring some of the overnight ones with wings. I wore two of them kinda over lapping to get most coverage from front to back.

I agree. Bring something nice so you don't feel like a total slob in a hospital gown with no backside....but maybe hold off on it being fancy/special stuff unless you don't care if it gets ruined. It is a lot of blood/bleeding, but you should be able to change your pads often enough to keep things somewhat clean. I took and wore my own gowns, but I would have them bunched up under by back instead of under my butt as well.
I'd stick with gowns also b/c the nurse/s will be coming in to look at your "stuff" quite often. Do you really want to say "hold on, let me pull my pants down" OR feel like a baby yoruself while she does it?

Re: Fancy PJ's for Hospital
Definitely bring stuff you don;t mind getting ruined. By the second day I wanted out of the hospital gown so I put some pjs on. I really didn't care if I mssed them or not. Besides the blood I also lost control of my bodily functions trying to make it to the bathroom, so it was good I was wearing something I didn't care about.

Same thing with underware. Bring old ones that you don't like or buy a cheap pack of hanes. I bought the ugliest granny panties and wound up tossing them they just get to gross to even wash.

Re: Fancy PJ's for Hospital
I didn't leak once but I brought my own pads. I doubled winged pads and it worked out better for me instead of the hospital diaper pads.
