Re: Farmingdale ?

What someone wants and doesn't want in an area is subjective OBVIOUSLY but how good a SD is factualy...ones being better than others

ANd i am under the assumption that COmmack and Hauppauge are in fact better than say...farmingdale...

if i am wrong please tell me?

I believe that Commack is slightly better (by a few %) then Farmingdale and Hauppauge falls below Farmingdale. But I'm going by overall percentage rates.

Tell me that's not a reason to pack up and go from this overcrowded overpriced overtaxed bad school district area of the USA!

It's very sad.

not exactly...

COMMACK:
Graduation rate - 97%
Receiving Regents Diploma - 95%
Four-year college - 77%

HAUPPAUGE:
Graduation rate - 98%
Receiving Regents Diploma - 80%
Four-year college - 66%

FARMINGDALE:
Graduation rate - 93%
Receiving Regents Diploma - 73%
Four-year college - 59%

95% of Commack graduates have regents diplomas with 77% going on to 4 year degrees - its a much better district than both Hauppauge and Farmingdale. And Hauppauge is superior to Farmingdale.

Honestly, if we all lived in Cold Spring Harbor, we'd be even more selective of the areas.

I grew up in Centerport (Harborfields School District #6). Our mortal enemies were Northport & John Glenn.

While I'd love to live in Centerport again - it's not feasible. My kids will go to Northport High School & will have to be nice to Harborfields kids.

Go by the school district not the town prejudices. Also - something to consider - if they have full day kindergarten.

EH? what does this have to do with anything?
sorry i am confused?

Those areas are more or less the same.

AS FARMINGDALE????
I don't think so...

Yes, as Farmingdale. I've been to all those areas before and it's the same. (to me anyway)

Why makes it different?

Commack and Hauppauge are considered much better areas to be frank

That's not necessarily true..
It depends which area of F'dale you are comparing to which area of Hauppague.

Farmingdale had a not so great reputation in the 90's becuase of some issues in the schools. They are now a much more integrated and competitve public high school. I do beleive that Commack schools are ranked higher, but Half Hollow Hills beats them both....so it does depend on the neighborhood.

Also, anything that has a huge industrial area (which both Farmingdale and Hauppague do) might be desireable to some but not to others.

I think just like any neighborhood if you see a house you think might be for you, then drive through the neighborhood & see whay kind of vibe you get. Drive through different times...day night, weekend, etc ....to get a good feel for it.

Re: Farmingdale ?

I think Farmingdale is one of those towns that get a bad rap. I do think parts are affordable and becoming more up and coming because of that - I think it is very similar to Levittown in that respect. I know a lot of people who recently moved into that area for that reason. I also have family who live some near the hs. 3 of my cousins graduated from Farmingdale school systems of late and all are very intelligent and did very well in school and did great or doing well in college. I never heard one story frmo them of violence or anything real bad at all. I have 2 more cousins going thru the school systems now. I would look around and form your own opinions.

Thats funny cause my wife doesn't think too highly of Commack.

But she considers Hauppague to be very nice.

Everyone has their opinions i guess. Chat Icon

Yes, I agree with you on that point. Very true. I guess it just goes with what you are looking for and what your likes and dislikes are.

For the record, I grew up in Farmingdale and still have family that lives there and I happen to have had a wonderful childhood and youth there and absolutely loved every minute of growing up there. Would not have changed it one bit.

That was my reason for wanting to know why.

I was waiting for this part

Re: Farmingdale ?

I don't know much about Commack or Hauppage or most Suffolk County towns for that matter, as I grew up in Massapequa Park, but my DH grew up in Mattituck all the way out east and always makes fun of Commack - (something to do with the Commack Motor Inn maybe?) that's the town he said they always made fun of out there - dont ask me why.....he also made fun of Massapequa and called me a mall chick when we first met. Everytime we drive out to Mattituck, he still does it when he sees the exit for Commack ....
I used to hang out in Farmingdale and Levittown and I always liked it and Bethpage too but I do remember this (in the early 90s that both Farmingdale and Levittown got bad raps something to do with Hempstead TPKE and the clubs and guidos maybe?? and the schools also, I have no idea how things are anymore as I live in NJ now ...still have family on LI tho)

But, all towns get bad raps now and then (whether its true or not) and it's surprising and insulting when you hear it, it's up to you to find out and decide for yourself.
