Fat Loss questions?

Hi Ladies!

I have a quick weight loss question. As I have posted I am on a very slow (like painfully slow) quest to lose some body fat. Over the past couple of months I have lost around 2 lbs. (I know I'm little so this is a decent amount I suppose.) I started introducing cheat meals into my plan this week. Sunday I saw a lb increase (which I knew was normal) and it was back down on monday. My nutritionist said I would probably see lower numbers than last week because the meal would spike my metabolism leading to more weight loss. That being said, my weight has been the exact same all week. Is that bad? What could that mean?

Also, is it possible to be losing body fat without really losing lbs? My body seems to be changing a bit and clothes are fitting slightly differently. (which I am obviously happy about!)

thanks for your helpa s always girls!!

Re: Fat Loss questions?

I am very short and I am already at a healthy weight but in the much higher range than I want. I was also out of shape a lot. Are you in shape? For me, it's mainly how out of shape I am/was. In 4 months, I have only lost 8 pounds, (which is about 2 a month) and I haven't been able to get further down yet. I am stuck maintaining my weight. I see larger gains now and it takes a few days to take off what I lost.

this is with about 5 hours a week of exercise (I spread it between 5-7 days) and also counting calories and eating healthier. I allow myself 2-4 cheat days a month but still try not to go crazy.

It is hard. but I am seeing changes physically rather than on the scale. I am starting to be able to exercise better, do things better, I feel stronger, DH says he thinks my body looks different. I am still the same size in clothing, but I feel like certain things just look better. I am becoming more muscle instead of fat! yes, our bodies are replacing our fat with muscle.

I know it is slow and hard, but even if it is a little at a time, in awhile, when you can look back, it will seem like a lot.

Re: Fat Loss questions?

Thanks for your response!

I am in shape. I exercise 5-7 days a week with a mix of 4 strength training workouts, and cardio each day with varying intensities and times. My diet isi n check for sure as I am working with a nutritionist.

I tried on some clothes that were way too tight a few months ago and are now too big which was comforting. I just feel liek I am working SOOOO hard and the progress is so subtle and slow. I am ok with the scale not moving as long as I am eventually reaching my overall goal of being fit and strong. it's just hard to measure that and is way easier to look at a scale weight! lol

i dont think weighing yourself every single day is helping. and just out of curiousity, what is your cheat meal like?

also do you know your body fat percentage? maybe it's already as low as your body will allow?

Re: Fat Loss questions?

My nutritionist likes me to weigh each day to get an average weight for the week...that's why i do it daily.

This past weekend we went to the hceesecake factory and i had a grilled chicken sandwich with avocado, a side salad and a dessert. I was proud of myself! lol

Have you had your body fat tested?

That is a wayyy better measure of fitness than the scale.

That was going to be my question too. You won't necessarily know if you're losing body fat by watching the numbers on the scale. You can lose body fat but build muscle, be physically smaller, and still weigh the same - the way to know for sure is by getting your body fat measured.

Re: Fat Loss questions?

First of all CONGRATS on the cheat meal!! It sounds like you are changing your body composition (building muscle and losing fat) even if you are not seeing the scale move. If your clothes are looser then a few weeks this is a definite sign. If you really want to know your body composition you can have a DEXA scan done. The scan computes the percentage of fat in the body by measuring fat mass, lean mass, and bone mass. It is considered the gold standard for measuring body fat BUT it is NOT covered by insurance. There are a few cheaper less accurate methods that will give you and estimate of body fat such as measuring with skin fold calipers (http://www.muscleandstrength.com/tools/how-to-measure-bodyfat-using-calipers.html) and the US Navy circumference method (http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/library/blbodyfatcalculator.htm).

I think it is. I've gained muscle and I can tell my body is changing but I've been the same weight.
I'm pretty sure my personal trainer even told me that I could stay the same weight and change my body composition (I was worried about gaining weight due to muscle).

I posted the other day that I consider physical changes that I notice to be my goals, rather than the number. I am fascinated by my calves and the definition I'm building. I'm able to recover from high heartrates faster. My clothes are looser, and even a little baggy in some areas.

I know it can be discouraging, especially when so many people want to know the magic number that you lost. But your quality of life and health is so much more important, and the people who understand that are the ones who can most relate to how well you're doing. Chat Icon
