Fat necks and rashes

Kylie has a bad rash between one of her neck folds. One spot is extremely red and looks painful. It was not there on Sunday night (last bath) so she got it pretty quickly (saw it last night). Any advice on preventing this? I always clean/dry he neck after every feeding. Anything else? She is really chubby and has about 4 chins. Chat Icon

Re: Fat necks and rashes

I used to put baby cornstarch between DS's neck rolls to prevent rashes.

Clean and dry it well. Then make a mixture of Vaseline and cornstarch and apply as needed. I used to make sure that I wiped in the rolls constantly, ds was a drooler!

I did this..super messy but it works

Also I got these bib type things that were narrow but long and sturdy. They would lay under her chin (one of them) and stay there while I fed her or if she was particularily drewly that day. She drewled a lot even tho she wasn't yet teething.

Those little clothes were a life saver. I got them at the Carters store. Next to burp clothes.

Re: Fat necks and rashes

clean it and put cornstarch in it...usually clears up in less than a day.

Just put the corn starch in your hand and rub it on the area. it will dry it out.

DD#1 used to get a very bad nasty red rash like that. I used cetaphil and cleaned it with a soft face cloth. After that dry it very well and use baby powder (cornstarch type). It went away right away. Just keep putting those two things one 1-2 times a day and it won't return.

Re: Fat necks and rashes

I used to use aquaphor and it worked. Had I been using cornstarch powder at the time, i might have tried that too. Oh, and keeping it very clean.

Re: Fat necks and rashes

My DD gets that, as did DS, it seems to happen so quick. I put a little dab of diaper cream on it and it goes away as quickly as it came. As for preventing it I wash and dry the area very well and use a little powder, but it still happens now and again.

Re: Fat necks and rashes

Ped told us to put aquaphor. It seemed to work because DS rash never really got too bad.

Re: Fat necks and rashes

key is to keep it dry

Sophia used to get this SOO badly, as well as cheese neck Chat Icon

id clean it a couple times daily with a wipe and/or at bathtime, let it dry, and then apply LOTS of johnsons cornstarch powder

DONT use creams or ointments, they help keep in the moisture which will only make it worse! it needs to dry out Chat Icon

My doctor had me put bacitracin to clear up the redness....It worked and we haven't had an issue since.

My ped had me put on nystatin a few times a day to prevent yeast infection in that area.

Our ped had us use Caldescene powder (pink container.) Cleared it right up.
