FATTENING recipes needed!

Yes that's right.

We're going to Florida this Thursday to see dh's uncle who has cancer, and we're told he's lost a lot of weight, he's having chemo, lives alone and probably has no appetite or energy to cook for himself. So i'm looking for recipes to help put some weight on him and spark his appetite (I hope).

Anything from meat n potatoes to Italian to buttery cakes. I'll try anything.
TIA!Chat Icon

I'm writing from my phone so sorry to make it short but try the pioneer womans blog - she uses heavy cream in like every main dish! Paula deem uses 12 sticks of butter in all her desserts and also bakerella has some good one like cookie dough brownies or chocolate chip cookie pie

Re: FATTENING recipes needed!

I would cook regular meals, and instead of olive oil, add butter instead. Use whole milk, whole fat cheeses, and cream etc. I have some recipies, but it calls for spices and stuff.

Re: FATTENING recipes needed!

Most important is that he keep up his protein intake to keep up his muscle mass. Too much heavy or greasy food might actually make him sick to his stomach.
If he has no appetite, find out if the doc can prescribe Marinol, which is an appetite enhancing drug. It's like pot - will give him the munchies.
Also find out if there is a social service that can deliver meals to him on a daily basis.

Have him snack on cheese, apple slices with peanut butter, whole milk pudding, scrambled eggs with cheese, the snack crackers with cheese.
Biscuits are high calorie but light on the stomach.
Supplement with Ensure drinks.
Ice cream - especially ones like Haagen Daaz that are higher in fat and calories.
Soups are a good source of nutrition as well, easier on the stomach than heavier stews.

Re: FATTENING recipes needed!

thick protein shakes. my dad used to make these for my bro when he was underweight as a kid. carnation instant breakfast powder or sometimes a protein powder that he would buy at GNC, icecream, milk..i forget what else used to be in there. but they were thick and filling.
