Favorite things to do in the city at Christmas time?
I have visitors coming from Sweden in December. Besides Rockafeller Center/5th Ave., what do you like to do? What shouldn't they miss for the holidays?

I think Bryant Park ice skating is far better then rockafeller center.

How about Bryant Park? They have beautiful decorations, a really pretty tree, a holiday market and free ice skating. It is very close to Grand Central Terminal, which also has a holiday market.

Definitely Bryant Park, Macy's, hot cocoa while window shopping, and St. Pat's.

The christmas tree at the Metropolitan museum is always nice, along with the items mentioned above.

my completely honest answer - get the heck out of it! So many tourists, crowds, lines...
BUT - if you are trying to show people around, def go to Serendipity for yummy treats, ice skating in central park is nice (bryant park is free!), shopping, store windows, etc. The Lincoln Center tree is really pretty and blinks in coordiantion with music which is nice.

They've been doing crazy construction at Lincoln Center and everything is blocked off with scaffolding. Hopefully by the holiday's it will be all completed. Even the fountain is blocked off right now. (At least it was 2 weeks ago when I was there).

I wouldn't miss having a glass of warm spiced wine at Rolf's, a little German/Bavarian restaurant at I think 23rd and 3rd. It is decorated so beautifully and so ornately, it is like walking into a winter wonderland!
