Favors for DH's graduation party--can I have some opinions
My MIL is throwing DH a surprise graduation party for his PhD, and she is paying for everything. I'd like to contribute favors to the party. I know they're not necessary, but they are fun and can double as a place card, and my MIL really wants there to be place cards so people know where to sit (It's at a restaurant).
I had two ideas:
1. Go for a fun, astronomy-themed favor such as a pen with candy in a fun box

2. Or a favor twice the price with no candy or wrap but it is nice. My Dh is now working at NASA writing software for a mission, and I found I can buy mugs with the mission's logo on cafepress:
Opinions for which you like better?

OMG...I thought the first pic was a vibrator!
I kinda like them though, what's that saying about me?
I feel that everyone has a million mugs, so I probably wouldn't choose that favor. But everyone can use a pen.

I like the pen, like PP said you can always use a pen. And candy is always appreciated too.
IMO the mug just wouldn't get used, I feel like I have enough mugs.

i would go for option 1. i think it's cute and everybody can use pen/candy.
i probably wouldn't keep/use a mug unless it had a particular significance to me. i mostly use the mugs that are part of our everyday dishes

I'd say candy (although I do agree, those lollipops look a little perverse ). I think everyone would like the candy, and not everyone would use the pen or mug.

I'm thinking since this is all DH's family and friends, that they would like to have a mug with his mission on it. Especially after seeing that the candy and pens were mistaken for peni and vibrators I think I may go with the mug. Thanks everyone!

I agree. I really don't like getting mugs as favors. We have so many!
How about that space shuttle box with like astronaut ice cream in it?
