I was told these are a thing. I have an ancient FB account and the last thing I posted was a wedding pic shortly after I got my proofs back- so over 6 years ago.

Anyway, I just moved and there is no LIF equivalent so I begrudgingly requested to join the local moms group. They denied me twice.

I don’t have pics of my DD posted nor do I mention where I live (I never have). I think you can see where I went to college and my profile and cover photo or whatever it’s called.

I mean I don’t even want to make friends, I just want to find a handyman.

Did they give a reason why they denied you?

lol that's so weird. Sometimes they want you to have your town updated in your profile, so maybe that's it?

I don’t want my town in my profile. I don’t even want to be using FB but I’m left with no other options. Chat Icon

I mentioned I’m new to the area during the series of questions I was asked.

I think this is probably why. Although there is usually a "question" you have to answer when asking to join that asks if you live in the town associated with the page. You could try to message one of the administrators - just tell them you don't want to post your town on your page for privacy reasons. Or if you have any friends that have joined that page, ask them to contact an admin for you

For my town Facebook site a current member must nominate you. You need to have a kid too.

What? Where do you live?! It’s a FB group, not a country club. Give me a break.

How am I supposed to prove I have a kid? Should I post a picture of my c-section scar?

I belong to a few different ones and never had to "prove" anything - just answered the question that I lived in that town

haha, it is strict, I did not make the rules, but I help mod it. My town had 30,000 people and they wanted it for parents whose kids are in the district. It is very active.

Yes, this is true.
I was denied one of the groups b/c my page was too private and didn't show any kids or had any in the school district.

I kept joining and having the confirmation deleted. Finally after the third attempt; I emailed her and that is what I was told.

FKN a&&hole!

Oh forget it then. I’m not plastering my kid all over social media to join some ridiculous group. I’ll have my MIL find me a handyman.

I don't post any pictures of my kid on social media for privacy reasons. You wouldn't know that I had a kid from looking at my FB profile. Or much else to be honest. Mostly pictures of my dog lol. But I was allowed to join the local mom groups.

Re: FB Mom Groups

I had this happen when I tried to join the class page for my district. But the mod was kind enough to message me and ask for additional info, at which point I explained that I don’t post any public pics of my kids. She was fine with it once we chatted back and forth.

It’s obnoxious that they aren’t reaching out to you requesting additional info or explaining why you’re being denied.

Re: FB Mom Groups

have you tried joining a city group that isn't specific to moms?

i am a member of the group for my city. they can get pretty stupid, sometimes... but i have received a few good recommendations since joining.

i found a good estate lawyer for my will.
i found a great baker for birthday party cakes.
and others.

Re: FB Mom Groups

That is odd as I have never had a problem getting on any and my page is closed and doesn’t always have my kids in my profile or cover picture.

Re: FB Mom Groups

Try other pages with your town.

There are 4 different ones for mine. 2 say moms and the others are titled
“ neighborhood”

One of the mom ones for my town is so strict and full Of a bunch of nags, I left that real quick. But I remember when I first joined, I had to message a mod separately because my profile is also very private. Once I got in, I couldn’t wait to get out.

PS. I don’t have kids. Most convos in the other “mom” group I’m in has nothing to do with their kids and everything to do with town stuff.

There’s a woman in my area that is a doula but doesn’t have kids of her own. She has a photo of herself with a kid on her profile and then asks for diaper and wipe donations as soon as she’s approved. Most people don’t question her, but I did when I noticed members offering to send her money. She finally admitted that she wasn’t a parent but tries to help underprivileged single moms and yells racist when she’s kicked out of the groups.

Re: FB Mom Groups

There's two "Mom" FB groups for my town that I joined with no issues. I guess being a "mom" isn't a strict requirement. Chat Icon I did answer some questions about both DC in the District.

Most of the FB Mom groups want your location in your profile to make sure they allowing in people from the community.

Be forewarned though, FB Mom groups are not for the faint of heart. They are ruthless!

They are!! And that's why I don't understand why this forum has died out and those thrive. I like the relative anonymity here. There is NO WAY I would say some of the things people say on those groups under my own name. I mean, I may not say it period but on here I'm a lot more free with posting my opinion and giving advice. I'm afraid a client or a business associate may not like what I share and it become a problem because I have no idea they are part of the "Mom" group I'm in. LI Moms has over 20K members so there is bound to be someone I know through work on there. Those women say the craziest stuff!!!
