feed play sleep routine?
ok so im a first time mom with a one moth old so bare with me .....kaylie has just recently been diagnosed with acid reflux so we're dealing with that....she sleeps soooo well at night but during the day she is soooooooo fussy she can cry for hours on and off until her next feeding i was thinking oh my goodness maybe shes colic?.....so i went online and i read about this feed play sleep routine and realized that it may have been more me causing this fussiness rather than her being colic.....maybe i should have been putting her down to nap during the day rather than waiting for her to nap by herself? ....its just every time i put her down she would wail so i would pick her up and she would fall asleep in my arms only to wail if i put her down again....i think her horrible fussiness and crying was her being exteemely over tired and me not putting her down to settle for a nap in the "right ways"......the article about this routine states that newborns show tired signs right after waking for a feed and usually will need to go back to sleep and hour to an hour and a half after waking??.....so i tried it after this mornings 630 feeding and she is napping right now from then! no crying! should i have been doing this from the day i brought her home!? is this what other moms do? i feel like i havent done the right thing with her and thats why she has been so fussy
sorry so long
and heres the links about the feed play sleep routinehttp://raisingchildren.net.au/articles/sleep_routines_for_newborns.html

Re: feed play sleep routine?
Jen. you haven't been doing anything wrong! It seriously is trial and error - you try everything until you find something that works for your baby!
Some babies fall asleep on the bottle or immediately after feedings while others are wide awake at that point and want to be up to play. What I look for are the clear signs that I get. When Athan is tired, he starts rubbing his eyes with his hands, or he puts his head down on the mattress or blanket face first. When I first see that, I get him and start soothing him, rocking him, and he calms down and I lay him down for a nap. When I don't get to him fast enough after he starts giving the signs - I am done! He gets over tired and worked up and it takes me forever to put him down. Just start looking at Kaylie and you will see her signs. There really is no "routine" and you haven't been doing anything WRONG!!!!! And the important part??? You figured it out now and she is napping happily!!! Hang in there mom - you are doing GREAT!!!

ITA with the PP. It really is trial and error and it took us a bit to realize what sort of schedule our son needed. It wasn't anything that we put into place. It was basically picking up on the signs he was giving us and he set his own schedule.
For my son, he doesn't just fall asleep on his own. He needs to be put down. So maybe your daughter is the same way.
Is she on any medication for the reflux?

i think thats exactly it....i think she needs to be put down and i guess im a dope with this mommy stuff bc i always thought babies just nap....they are tired and they fall asleep....but kaylie needs to be put down when she shows signs of being tired and if she isnt put down then the crying and ms cranky pants begins!
as for the meds no not yet....i have an appt with the ped tomorrow....itll be a week that shes on the new formula which shes doing well on....shes not constipated bc she IS pooping but the poop is harder and can be a bit difficult for her it looks like she is getting used to it though bc it doesnt seem to hurt her like it did at the beginning....we'll see what the ped says tomorrow about everything

Yeah i didn't really know either. I guess i was used to my nephew Tyler who would just fall asleep on his own and would fall asleep anywhere. So i didn't know either. But then you begin to figure it out and you begin to pick up on your baby's cues. And it's definitely better to put them down as soon as you see a sign... rubbing the eyes, yawning, etc because otherwise the little meltdown begins.
What formula is she now on? My ds had the whole constipation problem as well and it was VERY painful for him.

see i feel so much better now bc thats exactly how i felt i saw my neice and she would fall asleep anywhere and anytime and by herself! i assumed thats what babies do! NOT my baby...lol....she is on enfamil ar....yea she was bad the ober the weekend with the poop but the only thing is she was pooping the whole time so the doc just said to put the vaseline on the thermometer to make it a little easier for her so ive been doing that and she seems to be in less pain than those first days transitioning from the similac to the enfamil

Well that's good that she's not in pain. Although i'm not sure if you should be doing the thermometer trick a lot (at least thats what our ped said).
Let us know how you make out at the doctor tomorrow!
