Feeding schedule question...
Jesse will be four months old tomorrow. He only eats five times per day. Is this enough for him? I really can't add any feedings because as it is, he eats every three or four hours and he's not hungry before that, and at some of the feedings he eats very little as well.
Also, he usually eats at 5-5:30PM, and then his last feeding is 7-7:30PM. They are so close together but if I spread the feedings out during the day, he'll only eat four times per day which doesn't seem like enough. How do I get him to eat enough, especially at the last feeding so he'll sleep well? Thanks!

Re: Feeding schedule question...
How many ounces per feeding is he having?
I know most will probably be against this but have you tried putting a spoonful of rice cereal in his bedtime bottle?

Re: Feeding schedule question...
I would think that as long as he is gaining weight its not a problem... Is he having just milk or cereal too? Since they are the same age here is Logans schedule right now, but I am increasing the cereal as of today... I saw the doctor for his 4 month check up and he said to increase his cereal to 3-5 TBSP:
6 am - 5 oz formula 9 am - 2 TBSP cereal and 5 oz formula 12 PM- 5 oz formula 3 PM- 5 oz formula 6 PM - 5 oz formula 9 PM - 2 TBSP cereal and 5 oz formula
Also, Logan still wakes up at 2 or 3 AM even though I give him cereal before bed. I have started to just rock him back to sleep this way he will get used to NOT having that middle of the night feeding.

So Logan is still eating every three hours, right? Jesse is somewhere between 3-4 hours. But he sleeps all night - his last feeding is at 7:30PM and he doesn't wake up to eat until about 6:30AM. He's not awake enough for me to feed him more often!
We have not started cereals yet as at our last doctor's appointment he said not to. We are scheduled for his 4 month check-up so I'm going to ask him again.

Re: Feeding schedule question...
I feed Grace 5 times a day at the Drs. suggestion. She is 4 1/2 months old. I make her bottles 7 oz. but she only finishes it once in a while. We just started giving her cereal with her seond feeding of the day. I know what you mean that its hard to fit them in while trying to spread them out. I try to feed her every 3 1/2 to 4 hours. When she wakes up late, I try to push the feedings closer together. She has her last bottle later than Jesse though. Usually around 9. She seems to be falling alseep earlier though and I'm having trouble getting her to drink the last bottle. Its never easy! She does sleep through the night though so no complaints here.

That's exactly our situation! Today he is having his last bottle right now and it's only 7PM! I do what you do - just try to space out the feedings and put them closer together if he gets up late or falls asleep early.
***** Aliking and Stayandjohn - hang in there. They'll surprise you and be sleeping all night before you know it. I do consider myself lucky that Jesse turned into a good sleeper.

My daughter is 4 months too. Last bottle is somewhere between 7:30-8:30 and she sleeps until about 7am no waking. She is getting 6 ozs per feeding about every 3 hours. Tomorrow we are starting ceral!
