Feeding the baby

Are you going to wake the baby up and feed them OR "Demand feeding " when the baby wakes up you feed them? Some girl just told me she woke the baby up and fed her now her baby is 5 months old and sleeps form 10-10 but that baby has been sleeping those hours since she was 2 monts old!

Re: Feeding the baby

I fed on demand for the first 2 weeks. When the 2 weeks is up, I more or less get her on a schedule of every 3 hours. So if she sleeps past it, I'd wake her up. To be honest, I never really had to do that. She basically was waking up every 3 hours to eat anyway. Then she would go back to sleep.
But for the first 2 weeks, she slept and ate on demand, after the 2 weeks she was up every 3 hours. From there we got a schedule going. It was 12 am, 3 am 5am, 8am, 11am, 2pm, 5pm then bath and a 8pm bottle right before bed.
Once the baby was getting enough formula during the day and her belly was content, she no longer wished for a bottles at night. She started sleeping longer and eventually she slept through the night.

Not all Peds agree with one another and not all Mothers will agree with one another. You may not even agree with everything your ped recommends you to do. As the days and weeks go by, you'll get to know your baby more and more. You become the expert more than the doctors.

Re: Feeding the baby

i am pretty sure you are only supposed to wake the baby up to feed if he/she has been asleep more than 4 hours... and that's only with newborns. it might be different if you are EBF but i don't plan on waking the baby unless i have to!!

All babies are different...I don't believe that feeding has that much to do with the length of time your baby sleeps. Some babies LOVE to sleep, some babies LOVE to eat...they are all different!

If you BF, feeding on demand might suit you better. You have to suck it and see!

I will not be waking my baby up to feed him. Only if necessary like if the ped says he's not getting enough formula.

I never woke Andrew. If he was hungry he would wake up.

Re: Feeding the baby

Since I plan on EBF if I get to the point of being engorged I will definitely wake the baby up to feed. But I only see that being an issue in the beginning when we are both new at it.

Other then that, no I don't think it will be necessary.

Re: Feeding the baby

unless she is not gaiing weight, or making wet diapers, I will not be waking her up. Some how I have a feeling, I will not have the problem of her sleeping too much!Chat Icon

Re: Feeding the baby

I'm hoping that this baby is quite like its mother! My mom said the day I came home I slept and continued to sleep till god knows how long (forever because I LOVE to sleep), from 7pm-7am and rarely woke up.

I'm praying for one like that! Chat Icon Chat Icon
I won't do on demand, although I wasn't BF either so we shall see...

Re: Feeding the baby

On demand. If I can get Chat Icon to sleep through the night without a feeding there is no way in HE LL I am waking myself or him up.

Sleep is way too precious to me!

I don't plan on waking baby up for feedings. I am sure he/she will let me know when they are hungry.
