A stray cat we've been feeding is pregnant
If nothing else, I'm glad she found us.
We've been feeding a BEAUTIFUL stray tabby cat for about the past month. She comes around 8:30 every night to eat and relax on our porch. We thought she was feral, because she was VERY shy and wouldn't come near us.
Well, now she trusts us to the point that she'll let me pet her and rub her tummy. I noticed she looked a little "swollen" in the middle--and tonight I felt something in her tummy move I checked her teats, and they are very pink and swollen.
We are going to try to get her into the cat carrier so we can get her to a vet. My hope is that we can let her have her kittens (or not...we're not sure what the responsible thing is to do here...), get her spayed, have all of her shots done, and hopefully add her to our family.
I will keep you guys posted...I would love to just let her into the house so she can be more comfortable...but we have another cat and I can't take the chance that she may have Feline leukemia.

Wow...we have feral cats that we feed all the time and they don't let us pet them. I wonder if she was someone's pet at one time. You are a good person for taking care of her. Keep us updated.

Re: A stray cat we've been feeding is pregnant
Same exact thing happened to us last year. We had this sweet little tabby girl showing up in our backyard and her belly started growing. At first I thought it may be worms. Then I realized she was pregnant.
We rescued her before she gave birth and she wound up having her babies in our basement. i was actually there with her the night she had them. It was amazing to see.
You are doing such a wonderful thing to take care of her. Especially now since she needs good nutrition. I agree, do not let her near your cat until she is tested and treated.
Good luck and if I can answer any questions, let me know.

Thanks so much--I'm glad to have a contact with someone who's gone through something similar!
Did you wind up keeping her? She's really stolen my heart, and if all is well with her checkup, we plan to keep her (well, *I* plan to keep her--DH is just along for the ride)

We still have here because we haven't been able to find homes for her and 3 of 5 of her kittens. We can't keep her b/c we already have 4 of our own but she is just so sweet.
Keep me posted on how everything goes for you.

Re: A stray cat we've been feeding is pregnant
Aww this happened to my parents. A female cat just kept coming back to their house every night. My mother realized a bit later that the cat was pregnant. Then, the cat disappeared for a day or two. My mom was devastated, until one day she heard the meowing at the front door. Mom followed her the bushes in the front yard where the cat had given birth. All the kittens were adopted by friends of my moms and me. My parents kept the "mommy cat" and one kitten. This was back in 2004 and I am happy to say they are all still doing well.
