Feeling a little overwhelmed....
I know Bella's not even 2 weeks yet, but I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed right now. I guess it's because DH has had the opportunity to go out the past 2 nights and actually have a bit of fun and I'm resenting him for being able to leave the house.
Yes, it's my choice to BF and I wouldn't have it any other way.
But when Bella's been crying for over an hour, she's refusing to nurse (cuz she's pretty much BTDT) and she's just SOOOO tired and refuses to go to sleep, I don't know what to do being that I've been alone the whole time.
Then DH finally gets home and takes Bella from me and sure enough... she's fine. He gets her to calm down and everything's all right.
Meanwhile, I'm in the bathroom having a breakdown.
Just looking for some hugs I guess

Re: Feeling a little overwhelmed....
Awww... I remember those days- DH was the only one who could calm her down when she got like that- I think because they are a novelty to them.
I think you are exactly where you should be emotionally. Those first few weeks are so hard. Please don't be so hard on yourself.
BTW- I think you were a big person for allowing DH some fun time. I doubt I could have been so forgiving. What a nice wife you are

Re: Feeling a little overwhelmed....
BFing in the beginning feels so isolating, but try to focus on all the good you are doing. It gets much better, and you aren't alone -- its soooo hard!

Re: Feeling a little overwhelmed....
I completely understand what you are going through. The first few days we had DD home, my DH had to work both day and night. I too was overwhelmed and a little scared at the same time. DD is now 3 weeks and this is the first week I haven't had any kind of breakdowns and I'm actually starting to function at a somewhat normal level.
It's totally normal, and having your DH be away from you does make it harder, but it does get better.

Re: Feeling a little overwhelmed....
I remember moms promising me it gets better, and thinking - but how do they know about my kid??? Maybe this wont get better!!!
But it really does - just WAIT until she smiles at you - it makes it all worthwhile - and each week she will start to respond to you more and more in a social way and you will realize all that time with her was worth it... I vibe with you even though I'm not BFing - DH has been of minimal help here because he has been working like crazy and then very sick.... So I was going thru some resentment as well!
You are doing great!!!
Oh - Cailen stops crying for DH as well - but its just the novelty of him - dont take it personally!!! Cailen will also stop crying if I bring him into a difft room, so anything new and difft will throw him off a bit!!!

Re: Feeling a little overwhelmed....
It does get better. My DH was working double shifts a lot right after Christopher was born and it was making me nuts, then when he was home he would be working on his car. So, one night when Christopher sounded like a howler monkey for 4 straight hours I walked out to the garage and handed him to DH and went back inside and called my best friend.
But that happens less and less now (Christopher is only 7 weeks old too), sure we have bad nights/days, but overall it is better.

Re: Feeling a little overwhelmed....
chelle I could have written this myself. Baby G seems to only cry hysterically when I am home alone all day with him. Once DH gets home he is all smiles and calm. AND I am missing out on 2 parties this weekend b/c I have no one to watch the baby for me.

Re: Feeling a little overwhelmed....
Thanks ladies. I just feel like I'm somewhat un-attached from her. I'm so scared of post-pardom. I think that I'm over analyzing every emotion I'm having. I know that I have to give myself and my hormones time to regulate themselves.
I guess I'm expecting too much too soon.
I am so thankful for you guys and your words of encouragement!

Re: Feeling a little overwhelmed....
I remember those days all too well. I used to hate when people would say 'it will get better'...but of course, it did. But the first 3 months were TOUGH.
My advice would be to take help whenever it's offered. Even if it means you only have a free hour to run a get a pedicure or take a nap. Invest in a good BF pump and make sure you let DH feed the baby, too.
You cannot do it all. I tried and nearly put myself in the hospital from exhaustion.
Hang in there!
