Feeling a little sad over DS's 1st bday...what would you do?
As many of you already know, i am in VA and family in NY/NJ.
I don't know if i have the energy to plan another party in NY like I did for his christening, and all family surely won't be able to come here.
Would it be bad if I just invited my immediate family and DH's to come to VA and bring them out to dinner followed by cake at my place?
It's so hard. I have 2 bed apartment and while its not tiny, I can't host a large party. ALL family would be 70 people minimum. I just can't do it.
I feel badly about this. I know he won't care, and I'm not one for expensive 1st bdays but I still want it to be special.
I figured we could go to this great mexican place by us (we all love it) and then cake and coffee at my place.
What do you think?

Your plan sounds great to me! It'll be small but it'll still be special. Get lots of balloons and a fun cake and take lots of pictures.
I'm in your same situation - our family is in a different state. We don't know if we'll be going to them for her bday or meeting at a new location and making a vacation out of it. (I'm sorta tired of using my vacation time to fly back to the same boring state.) Our place is out of the question. It's too small. I feel bad she won't have a shindig with all the family but we'll make it special wherever it is.

I think your idea for dinner at the Mexican place and then cake is a great one! As long as you and DH and DS spend the day together celebrating, that is what is most important, IMO.
