Agreed.
I think people are stuck and focusing on "pre-covid" life and nothing else. We are living with COVID now. People have to start taking responsibility for themselves and their mental state and stop looking to blame everyone else.
Malls are stores and restaurants are open. What are people complaining about? Wear a mask and live your life.
Things people might be "complaining" about:
Having to postpone a wedding that you've been looking forward to your whole life and planned for a year plus.
Not being able to see your aging father in a nursing home for the past 7 months because of covid restrictions.
Not being able to celebrate important milestones in your or your children's lives with friends and families.
Not being able to have your children see their grandparents for months on end because you are afraid to put them at risk.
Watching your children suffer from anxiety that they never had before.
Seeing your special needs children fall behind in school/socially/physically because they could not get the services they so desperately need.
Not being able to take a vacation that you planned for years because travel is impossible now.
Seeing your child get into the college of his or her dreams only to be told that it would be full remote learning.
Having your spouse laid off or furloughed because business can no longer sustain so many employees due to covid.
Not being able to celebrate holidays/birthdays etc with elderly family members.
Those are just a few. That's not to say that there aren't still tons of things to be grateful for, but to tell people to stop complaining because malls and restaurants are open? I don't think anyone on this post mentioned being upset about malls or restaurants. And I am not sure where anyone "blamed" anyone. I just don't understand why some people can't show some empathy.
Because she's a miserable bitchh who has proven that time and time again here
Unbelievable. Yeah well Congratulations to anyone who feels fine I guess. Listen I work a job that is mentally draining and if anyone thinks this is something to scoff at think twice. We are in a mental health crisis! Hospitals (psychiatric) are so inundated they can't provide quality care and people are being minimally stabilized at best and being released as soon as possible. Teenagers are suffering depression at an unprecedented rate. They barely look at the patients and I have first hand knowledge of this. Lets show each other a little empathy here for once
Hmmm. Psychiatric hospitals are overwhelmed huh? Sounds familiar. What is our government doing to flatten that curve?

ITA with almost all of this, though I don't think we are going back to "normal" or whatever that is. Human race survives be evolving, not by complaining and sticking our heads in the sand. Not saying you are doing that OP.! Also anybody who still can't deal with this 7 months later, I implore you to get counseling . I understand not everyone is mentally strong, so if you need help, there is no shame in that.

you 2 are the type of people i am talking about in my post!!
I really cant believe you think life will stay like this forever. It didn't stay like this during 1918 pandemic don't think its going to stay like that now!!
Maybe you are the ones that should be seeking help if you really believe this will be our life forever.
Yes maybe it wont change in the next few months maybe even a year (not that I think this but Ill give it that long) but forever no!!!
Also no one was blaming anyone!! There is lots to be disappointed about and frankly its more normal to be upset with all that can't be done right now then to just accept this is life.
There is plenty of things we still cant do even with a mask on!!!

I don't know what you mean by this. It's not the government's fault. Its because of the pandemic. There's an increase in depression and other things and simply not enough care available so they are rushing people through and the care is minimal at best. Unless you go to Mather, that one is pretty good...

I know. I was being sarcastic because like everyone says...the only thing anyone/our govt cares about is Covid. A mental health crisis that overwhelms the mental health care system doesn't matter.

Gotcha. I guess when all the homicidals are roaming free and wreaking havoc we'll spring into action. Also part of problem is health insurance but now I'm getting off topic...

Instead of following the news, start following Infectious Disease Experts and Epidemiologists. They actually know what they are talking about and are not part of the media sensationalism.
The ones I follow provide great information. They are honest though that we will have to continue following the CDC guidelines for the foreseeable future. They believe things will return to normal little by little as long as people continue to follow social distancing, mask wearing, and proper hygiene. It will not be like one day everything just switches back to pre-Covid. Things are already starting to go this way. Schools and businesses have reopened. Many people are returning to in-person work. Many youth sports have resumed.
Researchers know much more now about Covid than they did 7 months ago. There are therapies that increase the likelihood of survival. People in the NE are good with mask wearing.
This is not forever. I try to think of it like having a newborn. My son didn't sleep through the night for 22 months. I thought I would never sleep again and that I was destined to be a zombie forever.. That was 4 years ago now and I can remember how terrible it was, but it was temporary - like this.
Agreed.

Um - my kids go to school 2 days a week, but one of those days are Mondays so they have gone to school 8 days so far in the 2 months and 1 day school has been open. Thankfully I only have to teach them myself one of the other three days but getting them to their computers is like herding cats - and working full time. As I know the teachers are working harder, we are all working harder. Doing two jobs and being lucky to be paid for one as some aren't working at all.
I'm worried about the long term effects it will have on them. I could care less about going out to eat - we have gone out but, it's not something we do a ton anyway.
I am worried about the impact this is having on the businesses that are open, and the businesses that are closing because they can't make ends meet.
Things aren't going to be the same for a long long time - even if poof, Covid is gone, the damage has been done. And how will we be able to resume normal activities - a vaccine that only a few think they will take?

Feeling anxiety like never before
wow, I think I was called a miserable ***** on here???? Because Im not mentally unstable during a pandemic? I just glanced through second page of posts so I could be wrong, but I saw my name quoted a few times. You women are going crazy, I think you all have too much time on your hands and it's time you get back to work and not this "working from home " because obviously the majority are not that busy. Hiring is at an all time high, my company is hiring. And we are in person, every day all day since March. I said it before and was ripped a new one, but life is survival of the fittest. Good luck.

Nobody said we would have the restrictions we do now forever but things will change. And it wasn't you but honestly big deal that weddings got cancelled, adults couldn't go to college or have in person graduations, etc... I couldn't have a funeral for my family members, that sucked. Get a grip and grow up.

Umm hiring is not at an all time high. Where did you get that from?? or are you referring to hiring specifically at your job? My friend works at a bank and they just laid off 30 people. More to come.

I would do ANYTHING to go back to work full time, in person. Anything. However, I cannot leave my job for a new one that will allow me to come to an office every day for a few reasons. The industry I am in, all our competitors are also forcing everyone to work from home with no end in site So anywhere I would go would be the same. At least for the major players in the industry.
If I switch fields now, I'd be starting over and I can't afford that kind of salary cut at this point in my life. Unemployment is at an all time high. Not sure where she got the info that hiring is at an all time high. Just the opposite. So yeah, I do need to go back to work full time in person. I agree with that 100%. For many, many reasons, not the least of which is my mental health. But sadly, it's not that easy. Because, you know, Covid.

Feeling anxiety like never before
I wish I could be in the office full time, too. They're open and would prefer me there full time. But alas, I have to attempt to teach kindergarten on top of my full time job because others are refusing to do their jobs.
My issue is that a lot of the rules being imposed are not rooted in science. My DD is in school 2 hours a day to limit risk of exposure. You can transmit COVID in 2 hours. So my kid isn't learning in school because someone without any scientific background dictated it and that infuriates me.

Re: Feeling anxiety like never before
I think it just comes down to perspective. Obviously, my perspective is different.
There is no going back, you can only go forward. This is a sad reality we are living in, but we are able to live in different ways. This is a time when people to have to adapt, adjust, and refocus. How do civilizations change in history? People that understand change are able to progress, those who don't get left behind in their anger at a changing world.
And I think off of this website, plenty of people are doing just that.

Feeling anxiety like never before
In what world is hiring at an all time high?
Anyway, in response to the previous question my anxiety is horrible. I have suffered with anxiety from time to time but this has been awful. My sleep is terrible. I really need to see about getting some medication, which I have been resisting.
I cannot fall asleep and I wake up at 5 am every day.
I also have gotten horrible anxiety driving lately, which I never have had before. I think its just spilling over into everything.

Why did not being able to have a funeral suck? For me, that would be no big deal. The person is dead, I am sure they barely noticed you missed their funeral. I'm not sure what makes a funeral different from the other things that I mentioned however.
Either way, you clearly lack empathy for anyone that might be upset about the things I mentioned. I can't imagine what it's like to be so callous...

Re: Feeling anxiety like never before
I try to channel anxiety into activism and advocacy for public health and social justice. Who gets sicker and who dies from this is not random.
Just like during past pandemics, wars with drafts, etc., the (relatively) wealthy and privileged enjoy greater insulation. This is why MY anxiety comes from all of the selfish misinformation spreading, downplaying, and regulation flouting that I see in real life and on social media every day.
For me, channeling this anxiety into increased activism has been healing.

I am sorry, but your repsonse...is callous and you seem to lack empathy for anyone who lost someone during this time. You are fortunate that you did not, I guess. Some of us have and not being able to see someone in the hospital to say goodbye or attend a funeral for closure sucks.

I'm really sorry to hear about anyone feeling crippling anxiety.
I have definitely had my moments lately, for a few reasons.
I wholeheartedly agree that keeping perspective and taking action help significantly.
These aren't easy times for sure.

I think there is a balance to be struck. I see these anti mask nutbags in the news and obviously they're dangerous and should be penalized for their selfish behavior.
At the same time, there are school districts refusing to adequately educate children, subpar extracurricular activities, community events with restrictions so great they should just be cancelled. People in my neighborhood call the cops if they see people standing less than 6 ft apart- outside, while wearing masks.
All of the things I list can be done safely, it just takes planning and an understanding of how viruses actually spread. There is misinformation on both sides and I say this as someone who is taking this very seriously and understands and accepts that "normal" won't return for a long time.
Life needs to be altered to contain the virus, but it doesn't need to be cancelled.

I try to channel anxiety into activism and advocacy for public health and social justice. Who gets sicker and who dies from this is not random.

But, I don't disagree with you....? I wasn't taking an extreme "side." This thing doesn't have sides for me. Just a constantly changing reality. I was just speaking to my own mental state. You and I don't disagree.

Oh no, I don't think we disagree at all. I feel like the focus is always on those who flout the regulations and think the whole thing is a hoax, meanwhile there are people who are at the extreme opposite end. While not dangerous from a public health perspective, their actions aren't evidence based and they are (whether or not they realize- I'd like to think they don't) making an already difficult situation more difficult for no reason.
And those people cause me crazy anxiety

This isn't the flu :enough eye rolls for you. No, I don't think life will go back to normal, it didn't after any great war, didn't have 9/11, it didn't after the 1918 flu, it changes and adapts. Nobody said we would have the restrictions we do now forever but things will change. And it wasn't you but honestly big deal that weddings got cancelled, adults couldn't go to college or have in person graduations, etc... I couldn't have a funeral for my family members, that sucked. Get a grip and grow up.
I am sorry, but your repsonse...is callous and you seem to lack empathy for anyone who lost someone during this time. You are fortunate that you did not, I guess. Some of us have and not being able to see someone in the hospital to say goodbye or attend a funeral for closure sucks.
I was being sarcastic... She can complain about missing a funeral but she can't empathize with someone being upset about many of the other things that covid took away.

Re: Feeling anxiety like never before
Covid fatigue is a real thing! I have never had anxiety before but am having bouts of it now. Finding myself crying sometimes out of the blue (I was so hormonal I thought I might be pregnant there for a minute). My family is experiencing it all. We have lost a close family member in April which was very tough. Many family members had Covid.
We have been careful but are trying to live life as well. My 8 year old asked me the other day if he will be ever be able to get married? It’s funny the things kids think of. My twins now sleep together and get upset if they don’t (they have never been like this).
Just wanted to tell poster I and so many others can relate. The mental load we are all baring is a lot!
