I am so sorry you're in so much pain. I've had my own awful back issues in the past and went months on meds and meds that didn't help and finally had surgery, which helped tremendously. The cortisone shots did nothing for me. Well, the first time it gave me relief for awhile (two weeks or so) and when I went back for the second, it actually made the pain worse. Have you seen an orthopaedist, or just the chiropractor? I would highly recommend going to an orthopaedist that specializes in spinal issues. I don't know if they can give you anything, but they might be able to give you oral steroids. I recently went to the doctor for a bug bite and they said if it didn't get better, they'd give me steroids, which are safe for me and baby. When I have a back flare up, my doc puts me on steroids for a week and 9/10 times it cures me. It's worth asking about. I hope you feel better!
I was just going to suggest this. Beth I have been on prednisone since the beginning of my pregnancy. I am weaning off now but babies are fine and I wonder if it would help?

Oh Beth, I am so sorry! I understand that you are totally miserable. Perhaps the cortisone is an option - I would definitely look into it! Feel better!!!
What about swimming? Could that help? Taking the pressure off your back?? Just a thought....

I am so sorry that you are having such debilitating pain! I can only imagine what you are going thru. And I am sure the pain is exacerbated when your OB doesn't listen!! I wish I had some ideas for you... maybe a physical therapist? I hope you get relief fast!!

Re: Feeling the baby is the only thing keeping me going
I want to thank ALL of you from the bottom of my heart for your words of encouragement and for all of the suggestions.
The thing that scares me the most is the prospect of not being able to go back to work in August (I'm a teacher). I REALLY need that money from the 1st part of the year and I need to be able to keep my insurance going.
I am definitely going to seek the help of an orthopedist or a pain specialist. I just know that what I'm going through is NOT normal for pregnancy--especially since it started when I was 8 weeks and has gotten progressively worse.
I am going to take into account all of your suggestions. I think I will most likely need to have the back surgery when this pregnancy is said and done. I am quite sure my back will be wrecked and I can't even FATHOM doing this again. I always thought I wanted 2 or 3 children...
Again, thanks so much to all of you. I'm hoping my NY chiropractor can give me some relief. I will keep you all posted.
