Feeling very down today
I went to the doctor last night for my yearly appt and found out that I have not lost any weight since my 6 week check up - Ali is 5 month old
I really need to lose this weight. I was overweight when I became pregnant and I gained 48 lbs during pregnancy. I lost 34lbs when I went back for my 6 week check up - but still have 14 to go to get to my pre-pregnancy weight.
How do you all do it? I try to watch what I eat for the most part - but there are always good and bad days. I need help

Re: Feeling very down today
I feel your pain! It is so hard and exercise isn't fitting in to my schedule
So I made diet changes...I started weight watchers but don't go to meetings. My friend picked up the booklet for me and I have found it helps to write things down.
I stick to drinking water and sometimes diet soda...no juices.
If I am going to an event like a wedding or fundraiser I totally don't watch the "points" but every other normal day I do.
I found it was all about portion control. I still eat what I like but use a small cereal bowl not a pasta bowl for when I eat pasta.
All this has helped me loose an additional 13 lbs...slowly but surely

Re: Feeling very down today
I've been down about my weight too -- and no longer have the post-partum excuse.
If this helps you at all, I was told by my boss's wife (who is a certified doula) that at 6 months post partum, most women look about 5 months pregnant. It took you 10 months to gain that weight. To expect it to go away just because you've had an 8 lb baby and a few pounds of water isn't realistic.
I've noticed that since I've started having one big meal (either breakfast or lunch) and a light dinner, I've dropped weight. I rarely eat after 6pm now - since I get home about 6:30-7pm, it means skipping dinner.
My co-worker/stalker at work went from a size 12 to a size 4 in 7 months by just the old adage of excercise & diet. The more exercise she tried, the more energy she had. I know firsthand how hard it is to do that with a baby. I would do less sitting & more walking. I know sitting at a computer isn't helping me at night. I started to get more things done around the house. Lately I've been thinking about starting to run more since I used to do it in college. I just need to get off my tush & do it.

Re: Feeling very down today
Marcie I'm in the same boat as you, I dont know how the other mom's do it?
Its been such a PITA to get these 20lbs off, that I'm going CRAZY over it!
I have my good and bad days too, and its hard not being as active as I use to be before I had Julia, and I feel that has a lot to do with why I'm not loosing it as fast.
I even BF for 11 months thinking ok I will loose all this weight and more, ya ok! That didn't work, I know it will come off, I'm just going to have to work EXTRA hard at it.
We can go it!

Re: Feeling very down today
I think I am heavier now that ever. It's so hard. And my baby is 6 months old. I plan on doing WW and cutting back on eating sloppy (snacking all the time). I have a treadmill I need to dust off to.
But like someone said, it takes 9 months to put it on, please give yourself at least 9 months to take it off.

Re: Feeling very down today
You can do it!! Please don't beat yourself up, that's the worst, I have been in your shoes many times and beating yourself up really only makes it worse
I gained 50+ with DD, and I have less than 5 lbs to go, Ya I can forget it now since I am pg again, but this is what i did.
I do not believe in skipping meals, depriving yourself, or going on fad diets.
It's all about portion sizes. A portion of meat is the size of your palm, a serving a pasta is your fist. A good way to start, is to put on your plate what you would normally eat, then remove half of it.
Load of up veggies, fruits, whole grains, LIMIT WHITE FLOUR and processed foods, no juice, soda, cut out those empty calories.
What really helps too is watch your snacking-one cookie 4 times a day is still a whopping 300 calories. and that 300 calories times 7 days is at least 1 lb of weight loss.
But it is still okay to indulge once in awhile. I still eat my ice cream, cheeseburgers, fast food, i just don't do it all the time and when i do i adjust what i eat for the day.
When you eat something bad you have 24 hours before it becomes on your azz, the next day you can rebound yourself after eating lots of calories too.
The worst thing you can do is deprive yourself, set hard limits like no eating after a certain time. IT doesn't matter what time you eat, it's how much at the end of the day goes into your mouth.
The keys are good choices, portion sizes, little indulges and some exercise, even if it's 15 minutes twice a day. It will come off!! Slow weightloss is the key to maintaining weight.
Hang in there!! 9 months on 9 months off, it will happen!!
FM me if you want!!

Re: Feeling very down today
I just didnt think about or stress about it... My stomach went down very quickly. I was so busy getting into a routine that I didnt have time to pick on junk food and I also never sat down..so I guess my metabolism was in high gear!! I tend to drink tons of water and eat lots of fruit...
DS is 7 weeks tomorrow and I have a couple more pound left before I am at my pre-prego weight...
Even though I have lost most of the baby weight,,my body is def different. you'll get to your goal weight!

Re: Feeling very down today
I feel your pain! I was very depressed about the weight and I basically starved myself for a few weeks this summer. Now I am watching portions and limiting sweets. I absolutely hate dieting, so I'm trying to eat what I like, just eat less of it. I've been eating cereal for breakfast, a Lean Cuisine or other light lunch, and then whatever I want for dinner. I also joined Jazzercise and that has been great. I am losing weight ever so slowly. I know if I did Weight Watchers or some other diet, I would lose the weight faster, but I just can't commit to that. I'm doing it at my own pace. Good luck and know that you are not alone! Small changes can make a difference.

Re: Feeling very down today
Miranda is 1 and I just finally was able to get it together to try to lose weight. I found being a mom so overwhelming that I kept eating and eating to deal with it and actually gained 20lbs I really find Weight Watchers the easiest thing to do because it allows you to eat everything so you can survive in just about any situation. I'm still stuck on the exercise but little by little I'm working on it. I know how you feel. I'm avoiding my annual because I dread them seeing I am probably just as heavy as my 6 week check up.

Re: Feeling very down today
I'm sorry you feel down, but you are doing well, you haven't gained any of it back that you have already lost, and that's hard to do, especially with Halloween candy!! You will do it. I've heard the saying, it takes 9 months to put the weight on, so most times it takes at least that to get rid of it!

Re: Feeling very down today
I'm right there with you. I lost about 15 pounds right away and thought that was great but it was BFing and now that I stopped it's right back on and I'm at zero. So I know exactly what you're going through, but our priority right now is our baby so I have to acknowledge that. I've tried to go on walks with her, but I haven't been consistent about it and I know it will get worse as it gets colder. I can't complain too much b/c I haven't changed my eating habits since my pregnancy ended, which is my problem for sure. I don't have any tremendous advice but I thought it might help to know you're not alone! Are you coming to the fundraiser? We can dance off some of our lbs together
ETA that I'm right there with all the people who said 9 mos on, 9 mos off. We have to be patient and not beat ourselves up.

Re: Feeling very down today
I feel the exact same way. DS is 5 1/2 months old and I'm still wearing maternity pants I just stopped BFing so my dr said I should now drop another 10 lbs but who knows. I haven't had the energy to work out because I'm exhausted by the time I get home and get DS to bed. I'm thinking about going on Jenny Craig...I did it once before and it worked for me. Hang in there and good luck!

Aw, I know what you mean!
I really suggest Weight Watchers, not everybody loves it, but physically going to the meetings really helps me stay on target and get inspired. I once lost 20 lbs. with them!

Re: Feeling very down today
First of all.. We have ALL been there.
I had about 20 lbs to lose after my 6 week check. Weight watchers helped me lose it all. My main problem was portion control and it taught me how to eat healthy too.
Good luck and you will lose it, it just takes time. Your body takes about 9 months to change and you really have to give it the same amount of time to go back to normal.

Re: Feeling very down today
I feel the same way Marcie! Its so hard. I barely have time to eat and when i do, its usually something quick and crappy like a munchkin or brownie or some other devilish treat that people bring over. I used to love to work out and now i have no time to. If I'm lucky and its a nice day out, I spend an hour getting the kids ready for a walk in the stroller and trying to make sure they are both fed, then hit the road for a whopping 20 mins. I dont know when I'll ever lose this extra 15 pounds and i have a feelings its only going to be harder around the holidays. Your not alone sweetie

Re: Feeling very down today
I am totally there with you and my DD is almost 8 mos old. I am between a size 10/12 which at 5'2 I'm not happy about. I was a 7/8 pre preggo and I'm 13 lbs away from pre preggo. I am a good eater but it just isn't coming off. I went into GNC today and the girl behind the counter had a 14 month old and we b*tched about pregnancy weight for about 30 mins. I just bought a supplement today to give me a boost. Hang in there!! Many of us are there with you!!!
