Female Golfers
How far should I be hitting witha 6 iron?
I'm trying to figure out how far away I am from actually playing

i go out and play and I only use 5 clubs..
3 wood, 5 iron, 7 iron, wedge and putter.
I don't care how long I hit..getting on the course and playing is the only way to get better. You can't get better at the driving range or just from lessons.
I'm assuming that you haven't gone out yet..

I've taken 2 lessons so far...I def needed them to learn how to hit
I haven't used a wood yet though...
DH showed me how to use the wedge last week
I have another lesson Friday, but am dying to play the par 3 w/o looking like an idiot

i think more important than how far you hit is how straight you hit. like the previous poster, i also don't use all of my clubs.
i always drive with my 3-wood, and then prefer my 7 and 8 irons. as long as you're hitting the ball straight, you can keep moving right along!

I am hitting high and straight, so that is good
Is it much different to hit with the woods as far as stance and swing?

it's very different. I still can't use my driver. My 3 wood is a club I've had for 10 years. I still have the set I bought 10 years ago and see no reason to buy any others cause I suk.
I kid that I shoot a 90.....
....on a 9 hole!
Straight is important. I hit straight but have no distance..I mean with a 3 wood I hit maybe 100-125 yards.

I should be hitting about 150. It's fine to be hitting that with your 6 iron. You could probably try a 5 iron...it's more club with less loft. You have to get down under the ball more.
With a wood, you will most likely be hitting off a tee.
It's better to start with irons..don't forget your short game too. Pitching and chipping.
