She's a very attractive woman, posing for a cover of a magazine that is about sports, geared for men, and has an annual swim suit edition......did people expect she'd be wearing a poncho and coke bottle glasses?
Not provocative considering the covers we've seen from SI before....she looks good.
Totally agree with you!

Re: Female skier Sports Illustrated cover- too provocative?
Maybe if she was in that pose NAKED I'd say yeah- provocative.
She is more covered up than Miley Cyrus at the Teen Choice awards.
What year is this that this is even an issue?

I just had this conversation with my DH the other night. I REALLY don't see the big deal at all. It doesn't seem provacative to me.
Ditto. I was expecting her to have her jumpsuit unzipped down to her navel or something. I don't see it or get it at all.

Yeah, I'm not getting this. She's completely covered and in a perfectly normal ski position.

I think what they have a problem with is the fact that even female professional athletes are portrayed as sexual beings, rather than being highlighted for their athleticism.
this is what people are complaining about.

Yes I can *kind of* see this point.
But really SI is a magainze that's main demographic is MEN.
Of course a woman who is that attractive and a great athlete is going to be sexualized a little bit.
But how many times have male athletes been photographed to showcase their hot bods? No one complains about them being sexualized, because we likey what we see.
I just think that sometimes when women complain about these things, they just need to take a step back. I mean have you ever seen some of the photo shoots they do for David Beckham or any member of the Italian soccer team.
Yet no one runs around waving their fist up to the sky saying "Why can't we just appreciate these men for their athletic abilities!!"
The door swings both ways, and heck, if she's got both the looks and the ability, more power to her.

She likes it in da butt.
I don't see it that way either. I'm starting to hate the semantics about the PC problems with photos, art, words, etc. So uptight.
I didn't have a problem with the cover, but this is along the lines of what I thought when I first saw it.

Re: Female skier Sports Illustrated cover- too provocative?
men and women have sex.
thank the LORD for it.
of course we sexualize each other. it's what we do.
no matter what pose she strikes, a dude will look hat her and want to bang her.
like what I think when they put Rafa Nadal on the cover....holding his...racket.
people need to get over themselves. we all walk around wanting to hump each other. embrace it and life would be much more tolerable!

There is nothing wrong with that picture. IMO, to call it objectifying is a stretch. I think some people need more important things to worry about!

There would be no problem if there was a man on the cover in the same position.
People need to get their minds out of the gutter.

This country is progressively moving backwards.
How is that picture even remotely provocative? Oh, b/c she's bent over! Give me a frickin break.
My thoughts exactly!

Re: Female skier Sports Illustrated cover- too provocative?
I guess I have a sick mind but even though I "know" she is in a skiing position, it more so looks like she's trying to go #2 IMO.
That's just the first thing I thought. But maybe I am still on last Friday's bathroom themed thread day.

Re: Female skier Sports Illustrated cover- too provocative?
I have to be honest and say looking at it for a while, I can see the sexualization in it. Even though it IS a skiing pose, she is all made up, is a pretty woman, is smiling (which if she were truly skiing, she would not have that expression, makeup on, etc) and is in what is known as a suggestive pose overall with very tight (again, appropriate for the sport) clothes.
If her face and hair and expression were true to what a skier looks like when in that position, I could say it's just a skiing pose. But when you add it all together, it does have a hint of sexualization IMO.

I was just reading this article before I came to LIF.
I am still sitting here scratching my head...
I don't get it at all. She is wearing the outfit she would wear while doing her sport. She is in a position that she would use while doing her sport. How is this provocative? I don't see it at all.
Just goes to show you how over-sensitive people have become.
I dont get it either
If she was in a bra and underwear maybe.

I don't think it's provocative as much as it just looks silly.
Granted, that's how you downhill ski...but I still wouldn't want to "pose" like that for a cover.
Exactly. I don't think it's provocative or offensive at all. I do think it's kind of a strange pic though. People are always looking for something to be offended about

it's fine, she is a skier and that is the position they are in while skiing. These people have to get their minds out of the gutter.

Re: Female skier Sports Illustrated cover- too provocative?
I'm sure if you looked at SI sking covers through the years, you wouldn't see a male in that position. I'd say the intention of the pose was to be provocative & have people talk about the SI cover.
Mission accomplished.
Would like to see her in a helmet but I get that's going to mess up her hair.

Re: Female skier Sports Illustrated cover- too provocative?
Im sorry, I dont think its provocative or sexy this pose. It lookes like she is taking a dump. It looks like a SKI pose, I expected her to be in a Bikini when I opened this thread.
If SI wanted her to be really sexy they could've did something better. I understand the point ppl are trying to make about SI but of all the covers, this is the one they are using as an example.

OMG - I HAVE to share what my DH just said about this....
I told him about the "controversy" and he was like "It's not like she has a pen.is in her mouth! "
(sorry - his comment just struck me as really funny and I've been cooped up inside all day )
