Feral cat people
Do you have a relationship with your cat ? What is it like? Do you pet or handle the cat?

Re: Feral cat people
My cat is the daughter I never had. (I have 6 sons so I needed pink somewhere in my life ) Basically she's my princess and gets whatever she wants.

is she feral? Or in door? Mine is feral.. Has lived outside for 14 years.. I kind of inherited her when I moved in here.. She started coming round 2 yrs ago so thats when dh started feeding her and then I took over and I love her.. Dh s deathly allergic so she cant come in my house.. But she lives in her own heated house and get treated like a queen.. I trat her for fleas.. Give her wet and dry food.. and treats every night .. She loves me so much I am heart broken over her .. I wish I could do more..

Re: Feral cat people
I've had a number of ferals over the years, 4 siblings at first and two others later on. The siblings never let me touch them, but were "mine". Always wanted to play, to be around me, help me dig holes in the garden. Each had a name they responded to and I had a special whistle sound that would bring them running into my yard. They absolutely knew when feeding time was. Two were hit by cars within their first year of life, Cookie lived to be about 6 when she died, and Kukla lived to be 9.
The two others : Sweetie would not let me touch her except when she jumped onto my windowsill and I was inside the window. Then she couldn't get enought of the ear scratching, belly rubs. Outside was a different story, although she too liked to be around me. She had two litters of kittens that she brought to me, and then I was finally able to get her fixed. One day she just disappeared and never came back. The other feral came to me when he was 5 weeks old, and he wound up inside my home. He was the only one of his litter to survive, and his mom died not too long after he came to me. His dad was Kukla. Munchkin was with me for 13 years until he got sick and I had to put him down. He was my baby.

Wow thank you for such a great response.. I lifted mine up last night but she wouldnt let me hug her .. She loves to get ear rubs and neck rubs. She puts her paw on my foot when i stand up to tell me not to go She is so lovable to me.. Not anyone else.. I cant believe how old she is but i think its because she never leaves the yard. and i feed her so well.. she is not fat at all.. I give her one huge breakfast and then a snack at night.. Did you every grow cat nip? I was thinking about it ? Any opinion?

Re: Feral cat people
I never grew catnip because there were other ferals I wanted to keep out of my yard. My Kukla was very territorial, and then later on Munchkin when I let him out.
Munchkin got dried catnip as a treat, because he really got high off of it. So funny to watch him roll around like a goof-ball.
When ferals are well taken care of, they do live a longer but hard life. Kukla got worm treatments every once in a while, but nothing else. He and my others had a cat house outside, and access to clean water all the time. I didn't leave food outside, only to keep the others away.
As for touching, Munchkin made the first move. He was so tiny and I was afraid to touch him because I had no idea how the mama would react. He rubbed himself on my ankles, then wandered away. The next day, he did the same thing, hung around while I got him some food, then kept me company while I gardened. By day three, he jumped into my lap and that sealed the deal, he was mine. He was such a loveable cat, and the best thing I ever did was take him inside.

Oh I didnt think of attracting others ... Good point.. I leave her food in her house and we never get others? Raccoons used to come by but then I put the food in her house so they havent been around. Thanks so much for your input..

Re: Feral cat people
I too have my share of ferals....I joke around that we are the crazy cat people of Lindenhurst...pull up to my house and my ferals are all over Over the summer my husband and I found the first of our bunch, who ended up having kittens, 5 to be exact, in our front bush. We contacted a trapper who, after days of calling around to different associations, came to trap the Mommy and all of her kittens. the tiny babies were all fixed and adopted out and the Mommy, whom we call Shwartz, was also fixed and returned to us. She is a tiny all black cat with big golden eyes...she is my baby, but gosh forbid I get close. She still is sooo skittish, even after all her time here. In spaying her and her being released back to us, we promised to feed her. The man across the street from us does as well. He also has a open garage that they can go into when it snows and rains Any ways in feeding her, we acquired five others...the father of her kittens (Pete) and two of his kittens with another Mommy (Mini Pete and Blanche) a scaredy cat (Tiger) and a brute we call Ted. Our kittens Mommy was hit by a car a couple of months ago...my black cat kinda took them in as her own. They are always here in our yard, sitting at one of our doors. They are extremely friendly...my husband and I can pet the two of them...they even come walking into our house. Now you may ask why we don't keep them....well I just had my first baby and I am kinda afraid to acclimate them with my lil guy. Secondly, I have a bonded brother and sister cat. They are well aware of all of the ferals...rub on each other, the whole nine yards...but my female gets sooooo pissed...she goes crazy and attacks her brother. Needless to say, we had all of them fixed (hard because I was pregnant and now I'm a stay at home Mom...but we got Paws certificates and had connections with a great agency They also had another sister, Maggie, whom we caught and is now my MILs pet....she is great...loves being indoors, though will sneak out on occasion. I feel we at least saved one of them from the streets. They have all become my babies and I love them all to death. I look for them every day, morning, noon and night.....we feed them wet and dry food and when one doesn't come for feeding time and isn't accounted for, we get worried. They may be ferals and live outside, but they are our ferals and I love them

Wow.... You are amazing!!! You had them all fixed !!! Mine was fixed by the woman who used to live next door to me 14yrs ago.. She even took the cat with her to her new home but she found her way back to her original home.. I guess I am lucky not to have anyother strays .. She never leaves the yard and if she does its only to go next door.. These poor kittys have such a hard life. I want to hug mine so bad.. I named her kitty thats the only thng I could come up with Nothing else fit her.. She is so so sweet. I wish I could take her in but i dont think she would even like it..And more important my DH is deathly allergic..... She has a great home heated with food a warm water.. It took me months and months to get near her now she wont leave me alone.. Would rather be pet than fed!!!!!
