Nah, I don't bother hiding stuff from him.
If we don't have money, I don't buy-this way there's no reason for him to break my chops.

I don't hide that stuff from DH. He doesn't ever say anything about my shopping (although I don't shop a ton).

I do it with my shoes, I will wear a pair out and then switch them in the car. So when I come home I have a new pair on. I do beleive DH is getting wise to my scam, but he wont say anything. He new way before we got married I had a problem. When I moved in with him, I threw out around 65 pairs of shoes. I have since replenished them. I must have around 150-200 pairs.

This is too funny. I am glad I am not the only one. I never spend much but I do have a ridiculous amount of shoes so that is my guilty pleasure for sure.

Re: Fess up ladies... I know I'm not the only one...

I always think about hiding my purchases but then I wind up showing him anyway. He never says anything.

I have a girlfriend who always hides her purchases from her DH though. My favorite story (and there are MANY) was the time we went to the Kate Spade sample sale and we each picked up 2 or 3 bags. Her DH was getting home at the same time as she was and offered to pick her up from the train station. She got there first and ran into a drug store to buy two HUGE boxes of maxi pads to put them in the shopping bag on top of her new bags so when he asked what she bought he could only see the maxi pads. Re: Fess up ladies... I know I'm not the only one...

We haven't gotten to that point yet. Dh has a lot of debt from when he was younger. So when he says something about me going shopping, I just remind him how much we are paying each month to pay off his bills. And what I spend doesn't even compare to that!

So I use that to my advantage! Chat Icon

Re: Fess up ladies... I know I'm not the only one...

I hide about half....DH is limiting personal spending on the both of us so we can save for a house BUT there are times where I just have to buy something new

He's not controlling of my income but he's being practical and I know I'm not...I guess its more shame on my part rather than hiding it b/c of a possible fight or argument

Re: Fess up ladies... I know I'm not the only one...

I DO THE SAME THING.

And I don't feel bad anymore. My DH is absolutely ridiculous about my purchases, even if it work clothes I need etc. So something I do have to "hide" it or say I have had it forever. It's not getting through to him and I do work, too!

I've actually read that hiding purchases from loved ones is one of the signs that you may have a shopping problem (aka shop-a-holic) Chat Icon. I never hide my purchases.

I can see where people would think that, BUT, for the past 6 years, my DH would bust my ball$ even if I bought an outfit for a new job. With him it's a control thing. So I do what I have to do, you know? I am sure people who don't have this problem would not understand, and I envy you.

I can relate actually. My DH gives me crap over everything I spend money on...even things I need like gas in the car. With him, it is a control thing to an extent, because I spend far more money than I should, so when I come home with shopping bags from stores, we have to go through the whole "Do you really need that?" ordeal. It's obnoxious, but I get why he does it and I figure it's pointless to hide it from him, because he'll find out eventually. Besides, there were a couple of times I did try hiding things and I just ended up feeling guilty and silly. That's just me though. Chat Icon

Splooky, I learned this from my mother (what a rold model Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon ). She would leave things in the trunk of the car and then put them in the Guest Room clost and then when she would wear it my fatehr woudl be like "Did you just buy this?" and she would say "I bought this three years ago and I haven't worn it since" Chat Icon

I rarely do it - but my DH does not care like my father does.

Re: Fess up ladies... I know I'm not the only one...

Absolutely not. If he can spend $60 for a video game, I can get a pair of shoes I want. Or a new dress. Or whatever else I want. He's going to find out when the CC bill comes anyway, so why bother trying to hide it?

Plus, I wouldn't want to hide things from him. This example is lying about something that's not a big deal, but if I don't feel I can be honest with him, I would be concerned with what he was keeping from me. Honesty breeds honesty, deception breeds deception.
