Fetal Doppler? Update with questions!!!!!***
Does anyone use one to reassure themselves? I am going crazy with worry!!
Update: I know I am not a doctor but I am having trouble finding the heartrate!! I am 14 weeks and not the slimmest girl, but I can't hear any galloping sound. There are numbers that keep flashing up, 120 to 135 ish but I am usually always told the baby is like 170ish. Are those numbers the heartbeats? I am at a loss. I am not freaking out yet, I am just chalking it up to that I am Spaz!!! Lol

Fetal Doppler?
It didn't pick up on the Doppler until 11/12 weeks. It takes patience to find but once you find it its definitely a relief.
FYI in the early weeks (11weeks) it's very low practically by your pubic bone.

I used it twice. Once I found a heartbeat within 2 mins. The next time it took 20mins and that was at 14wks. When I looked it up online it warned that u are NOT supposed to use those things for such a long interval of time and of course I freaked out and never used it again. For me, I found that time where it took 20 mins was just so stressful that I never used it ever again!

After multiple losses, I think the experience with that faulty doppler took years off my life

Fetal Doppler?
i loved mine. used it every night from about 13-14 weeks until about 20w when i could feel her regularly. then i barely used it after that. but i totally loved mine. it never took me more then 2-3 mins MAX to find the heartbeat, and usually less than 1 minute.
i think if you are realistic enough to realize you aren't a doctor and may not be able to find it consistently or in the same spot and realize that the doppler you buy on amazon is not a doctor grade fetal doppler, all those considered, then go ahead and get one and have fun. if you are the type to totally stress and think something is wrong if you cant find it right away, then don't bother its probably more stress than its worth.

Re: Fetal Doppler?
We got one at 12 weeks and used it every couple of days till I started to feel consistent movement around 20 weeks. It gave me such piece of mind after 2 losses, that I absolutely loved it! As pp said you need to go into it with the mindset you won't freakout if you can't find the heartbeat right away or in the same spot and the more you do it, I found the better I got at finding it.

Watch a few youtube video on how to find the heartbeat. It took be three different tries on the three different days before i found it. Be patient and be prepare to spend 15/ 20 minutes trying to find the heartbeat. It gets easier the more times you do it. Good luck. It does give you piece of mind when you hear it.

I would just look up how long it's safe to use it each time. It took me 20 mins or so to find it one time and when I looked online it said using it for more than 5min sessions was not FDA approved or something. Of course then I freaked out....

i wouldnt trust the internet for that - just consult the manual that came with it. if it truly was proven unsafe for a period of time it would have to say so. also the box/packaging would say if it was FDA approved or not.
lots of things that we use regularly (and PLENTY of things that we used to conceive and stay pregnant, like femara and some forms of progesterone) aren't necessarily FDA approved for those specific uses so I wouldnt really think twice about that. your biggest concern with a home doppler is mental and the learning curve to finding the heartbeat and reminding yourself that its a crappy home doppler if you cant find it. these things are in no way as strong as a doctors doppler so you can't always trust the "results" of using it. furthermore there are strong veins and depending on where the placenta is, you never truly know what you are listening too. i thought i was listening to the heartbeat for a few days and when i went to the OB his sounded much faster and in a much higher spot. turns out i was listening to the thumping of a strong blood vessel (possibly even the placenta since mine was anterior). so just make sure to remind yourself to take it with a grain of salt - its not by any means foolproof. otherwise enjoy hearing your baby!

I'd still ere on the side of caution for anything not medically necessary. Just my opinion!

Not sure, I'm borrowed it from a friend. It just says 'pocket fetal doppler' on the front- but it's not that the actual dopplers aren't approved (I'm actually not sure if they are or not) .. it's just not recommended to use it for more than 5 mins or so at a time since the safety of them for an extended period isn't proven. THAT is the part that's not FDA approved- and while we put ourselves and our babies at risk by doing so much as breathing the air I'd rather not expose my baby to anything unnecessary. Of course that's just MY opinion and everyone will do what they are comfortable with both during pregnancy and as parents!
eta: looked into it and the FDA actually does not approve of the home dopplers being used at all because you are not trained in the proper use of it. Of course just take from that what you will. Clearly there are some on this board who choose to be more cautious than others so you just have to decide what you're comfortable doing. Good luck!

Fetal Doppler? Update with questions!!!!!***
I don't think it needs to be 170,...we used to see 140s to 150s. I am not the thinnest so I had to stay low,... lower then my belly button. Sometimes I had to go all the way down by my pubic bone.

Re: Fetal Doppler? Update with questions!!!!!***
It could be anything .. .could be the uterine artery .. Eh this is why I say to forgo the home doppler because they cause more stress than they're worth When is your next appt? You could always bring it with you and ask one of then nurses/techs etc to give you a few pointers. Although me personally, I'd just put the doppler down and have some icecream.

Try not to worry! It takes a lot of patience. The baby's heart rate should be picked up in the very low area of your abdomen near your pubic bone. Apply the gel directly below your pubic bone and slide the probe across very slowly (can be very hard to find so go slow). If you still don't hear it continue to move upward, pubic bone, then maybe even slightly above it.
As I stated it takes a lot of patience and time.
