fever and teething?
My DD is 5 months and she has no teeth ... tonight my Dh took her temp and it was 99.4 i gave her some tylenol but do you think she can be teething and that is why she has a low fever?
she does not go to day care or out much so I cant see her getting sick.

Re: fever and teething?
I don't really think that is a fever. I think over 100 is a fever in an infant.
But yes, they can get a fever from teething.
BTW, my DS doesn't go to daycare, my DH stays home with him and he had an upper respitory infection and pink eye this month, so it does happen.

Re: fever and teething?
99.4 is not a fever in a baby that young. I would check it again in a couple of hours but only if it goes over 100 is it a true fever.
But she still could be teething...

Re: fever and teething?
99.4 is a low grade fever....most docs suggest tylenol and such after the fever reaches 100.0 Anything over 101.0 should be delt with immediatly nad can start seizures

My ped says differently in infants. He says anything over 103 to call immediately, but only to call if the fever is over 101 for over 3 days

Re: fever and teething?
Sorry that Olivia isn't feeling well. We thought last week that DS's problems were due to teething, but then his temp shot up to 101.4 (I know, still not crazy high). We saw the pediatrician once the office opened and she said that 'normal' teething temps can go up to about 100.5. She said over that can mean something else. Which was true because Michael was sick.
Just keep checking her temp and if you have any questions, call your doctor. If you want to talk, I'm up all night, so give me a call on my cell!

99.4 is not considered a fever but watch it in case it goes up.

Seizures don't happen when until a fever is much higher...at least 105-106 range.
Of course a fever should be dealt with when it reaches over 100 ( I always gave tylenol when it was 99.5 actually)

100.5 and over is considered a fever in an infant. I would just keep an eye out to make sure it doesn't go up.

Not always true. We have a kid at my day care who gets seizures when he gets anything over 101.
