Fifths Disease
I think Sara has this. Has anyone ever seen it before? Sara has a rash on her face , belly and arms . She is happy and content though. She has no fever . I guess we are off to the doc tomorrow.

Re: Fifths Disease
It sounds like it honestly.
The fever doesnt usually occur until the rash goes away though. Well, that has been my experience with it with kids from school anyway.

Re: Fifths Disease
Sounds like it to me. Hope she gets better soon! Also you should notify anyone she had contact with right before the rash came out - particularly pregnant women.

Re: Fifths Disease
My son has had the fifths disease and when he had it, it was a lacy (like swiss cheese) rash all over his arms, and legs. Once the rash is out they are not contagious. The rash can also last up to 4wks, the sun or running around makes it come out brighter. If you think its fifths you should take him to the dr to confirm only because if he has been around any pregnant people that you know before the rash came out you have to let them know. It can be very dangerous in the 1st trimester. When my niece had it, I was pregnant w/ ds #3 and I wasn't allowed near her and her sisters for a month just in case they were to get it. Oh and just so you know there is nothing to treat it, it will just go away on its own. Hope your ds feels well soon.

Re: Fifths Disease
Yeah, I think that is what she has but I will bring her to the doc anyway. As far as I know she was not around anyone pregnant - possible at Gymboree but that is a big open room . We are off to doc yet again tomorrow.

Re: Fifths Disease
Both my neices had it last year and it didn't bother them at all and it was also around this time. I don't remember them getting a fever from it. Keep her inside in the AC and don't let her get too hot, at least that was what the ped told my SIL.

Please call Gymboree ASAP! There were multiple Fifths Disease outbreaks at my school last year - my pregnancy was fine, but another teacher's was not.
