Fifths disease...
Just got a note in my mailbox (I work in an elementary school) that I may have been exposed to Fifths disease.
I called my OB's office and according to the nurse, I tested negative (meaning I didn't have the antibodies for it) in my last round of bloodwork done with my first pg (18 months ago).
I have to go to Labcorp tomorrow to get tested again.
How bad is this for my pregnancy? I am 8 weeks along.

Re: Fifths disease...
i am really not sure, my dr wasn't too clearn when she retested me on monday. from what she alluded to, it can be dangerous, but it isn't always... but you would know if you were sick, you would get a rash on your face and body.
try not to worry (easier said than done i know)

Re: Fifths disease...
I would get tested again if I was you. My school had it going around too, but I am immune, I had it at some point and I don't know when. Someone that I worked with actually got Fifths Disease when she was pregnant. She had to get a lot of sonograms throughout the pregnancy looking for some sort of bubbles in the placenta, I think.

from what i saw when i googled, it can cause some complications, most common of which is anemia in the baby. if you get it, you'll just have to be closely monitored for the duration of your pregnancy. i am sure you'll be fine

I never had it either. Just try to stay away from any child that has flushed, red cheeks. I know that sounds ridiculous. But it is very recognizable- the cheeks have a slapped look. My nephew had it.
