Re: Fig Trees

We have a white one and purple one.

They're both about 30 years old. My grandparents started them and we've kept them (since I now live in their house and they have passed)

they are HUGE and grow more every summer, even though we cut them back. We already have a TON of figs starting..but won't be ready for a few months.

I personally like the white ones better..they're bigger, firmer & sweeter.
The purple ones are good too, smaller and not as sweet, softer.

I love any figs!

FM me any Qs.

My parents have fig trees. They are over 30 years old. We have both the white and the purple figs. I like the white ones better because they tend to taste sweeter. The trees take up basically the whole yard.

Re: Fig Trees

I would love more than anything to have a fig tree but my concern is the animals.

With all the birds, squirrels and chipmunks that wander around......Im afraid as soon as a fruit bud forms......they will eat it....and I will have no figs that will never mature. LOL

We had a purple fig tree but we moved it to my MILs yard since she has much more room than us. She has a ton of fig trees (seriously I don't even know how many) - a good mix of purple and white. All I know is that we have figs coming out of our a$$ by summers end Chat Icon Chat Icon

I didn't know this! I guess we have a white fig tree too, in that case. It was there when we bought the house, and we get tons of figs in the late summer/early fall. We need to trim it back a bit. We honestly do nothing to take care of it, but we've been told that it does well since it is next to our chimney. When I bring them to work to share, people always say, "Oh, you grow figs?" My response: "No, the figs grow. I have absolutely nothing to do with it!"

Ours isn't as big as what everyone is describing.
