Finally going to get some testing for DD and her allergies!!!
The allergist finally agreed to do some blood work since DD hasn't had hives recently. She IS having some seasonal allergies (itchy eyes and runny nose when we go out) so we can't do prick test now. We might get some false positives but the thought that maybe we can expand DD's diet to make her happier is making me so happy! Then later in the summer when she isn't having seasonal allergies we will retest and see if things were false positive or if she is actually allergic. He said to prepare that everything might come back negative b/c he thinks there is a chance it is a preservative since she ate nothing new and they can't test for that. I'm sad though that they couldn't squeeze her in this week so she is going to miss out on Easter since they can't see her until Tuesday.
For those who haven't seen my other posts - DD#1 woke up back in February covered head to foot in severe hives and had facial (mouth, eyes etc) swelling. So she has been on a strict elimination diet which she is really struggling with for about 2 months now.
Please say a prayer that they do find something b.c he said it will be MUCH harder on her if it is a preservative rather than some other allergies b/c she will have to cut out all processed or most processed foods.

Why can't they do a prick test because of seasonal allergies? I have had my 2 tested at various times of the year and the just have to be off antihistamines for 3 days.
I hope you get some answers because I feel for you

It isn't just seasonal allergies that are the issue - both the original allergist we saw and this one said they really can't do prick tests when you have had hives recently especially severe hives like she had (they both and the ped said 30 days of hive free). Otherwise you get a lot of false positives b.c your skin is super sensitive. Additionally he said that if you have seasonal allergies the prick (and blood) tests can be inaccurate so why put her through that 2 times? So we are doing blood and then prick when she is off the meds and not have additional issues (then they can also recheck anything she came up positive.)
