Finally got a diagnosis...
I've been getting terrible pain in my leg whenever I run.
Well, I finally bit the bullett and saw a doctor. I have shin splints.
I have to get an x-ray tomorrow to see if there is any damage to my bone, then the doctor has to determine how damaged the muscle is.
I can't run for at least two weeks
I am really upset. And overwhelmed. Now I have to see the doc twice a week (hey, what's another apointment, right )
This is wwhat's been preventing me to relaly push harder and get past this lull I've been in on the treadmill.
I guess this is just a pity post. And, to ask if anyone else had this and fully recovered.

Re: Finally got a diagnosis...
I'm so sorry! I had shin splints years ago and, although painful, they did heal completely and I was able to run again with no pain in about 6 wks.

Re: Finally got a diagnosis...
I had them and they healed and I ran again. I rode a bike since it was no impact and I couldn't run. It hurt a little but it was before i was going to do a fitness competition so I didn't care.

Re: Finally got a diagnosis...
I have them on and off. The right sneakers are critical! Also, cross training, lower body strength training, and stretching has made a HUGE difference. You may also want to see a physical therapist...there are ways to tape up the shin to prevent the muscle from pulling away from the bone anymore.
I know how frustrating this is, I was side lined 5 weeks before the NYC marathon in '06 due to achilles tendonitis....this was after 15 weeks of training. I ran very light, and cross trainined and ran the marathon. You will run again, listen to the docs and cross train!

Re: Finally got a diagnosis...
Thanks ladies!!!!
It is assuring to know that I will be running again soon!
I have to go to the physical therapist twice a week for the next 6 weeks. He said that he will do some stretching of the muscle and strengthening it.
I do strength training twice a week, so I'm covered in that respect. I'm just kind of bummed still.
BUT, now maybe I'll get addicted to biking
