Finally starting to show, and have a question about guessing the gender....
I'm almost 4 mts, and people still don't even think I'm PG - they can't believe when I tell them where I'm at....
I notice I'm growing "out" like horizontally - wider, not really in the belly, but everywhere.... what does that mean, gender wise?

I'm growing straight out and I'm having a girl, however I believe its more typical of a boy.
So it means you have a 50% of a boy or girl
Sorry I'm not much help

I keep looking at myself and hoping it is a girl and trying to find old wives's tales that would make it true.
The way I am handling potential disappointment is by not finding out. I have heard that the wave of emotions that come over you after the baby is born wash away any disappointments you may have.

This means jack. In fact, since this is my 2nd pregnancy, it's likely people will assume I'm having one gender over the other b/c it's likely I'll carry "lower" in general having done this already. The single most annoying thing is some old man or lady telling you what you are having solely based on looking at you. If that were a science, we just wouldn't have ultrasounds/sonograms! A MORE reliable source [short of Jr. being spread eagle at your sonogram appt.] is your baby's heartrate. Higher is typically a girl and lower typically a boy. My daughter's heartrate was never below 140. Since I don't want to know, I actually will be requesting to NOT know the heartrate[I do plan on having them write my "vitals" in a small notebook for my own record afterwards]! Of course, the heartrate can be deceiving...but that is by far more accurate than looking at your belly!

In the beginning, I got VERY wide. I was so convinced I was having a girl, but I am definately having a boy. As I got further along, my belly popped outwards. Now, it is sooo pointy it looks fake

Not sure I buy the heartrate thing. You get the heartrate read for about 30 seconds out of a 9 month period. When my babies were very active they were 160's all the way to 186! When they were sleeping and quiet they were in the 140's. So that's all that really is - a heartrate at that given point in time. If it was monitored for a week at a time and there was an average or something like that I could see it being more conclusive.

Re: Finally starting to show, and have a question about guessing the gender....
None of these things ever 'worked' for me in terms of what I'm having..
I'm def. having a boy..
I am carrying like a girl (wide, gained ALL over)
And the baby's heartrate has always been fast, indiciative also of a girl. Today at 39+ wks my little guy's HB was 166/bpm. His heartbeat has never dipped below the 140s range.
Up until my Level 2 even the nurses at my docs office predicted I was having a girl based on all this stuff - we were all wrong

LOL. What's funnier is that I was told by old men I was having a girl and I did not get "wide" or gain all over...it was simply my tummy! Granted, I did have a girl...this stuff annoys me and is right up there with people asking if you're pregnant when it's obvious.

Re: Finally starting to show, and have a question about guessing the gender....
I have not had one person guess girl based on how I look- I always get boy. One guy was so shocked- according to his friends he is never wrong.
SO the only way to know FOR SURE is CVS or Amnio.
