Finding out the sex at 28 weeks??
I know it probably gets to a point where the baby is too big for the sono tech to distinguish between male or female parts. I could be totally wrong!! I just thought the baby was so squished at the end, it would be hard to see.
We didn't find out at our 20 week appointment, since I don't want to know. I thought it would be a nice surprise, but I think I'm the only one who feels this way. No one wants to wait including DH. Who was quite disappointed that we didn't find out. So of course, I'm reconsidering my choice. If no one cares about being surprised, then why not just know now. I have a sono at 28 weeks, so I figured I could ask then.

Depending upon the position they can tell. I had a sonogram at 32 weeks with DS and I know they could still see the goods....
But...IMO...if you've gotten to 28 weeks I'd wait to the end to find out. I always anticipated not finding out but I could never get past the Level II. If you've made it past the Level II it'll be so much better to wait til the delivery room.

I believe they see the "goods" or lack of.... My personal opinion is that if YOU want to know then YOU should find out, but do it for yourself and nobody else. We don't want to know and it wouldn't matter to me if DH, and everybody else did...I don't want to know, and if I have to carry this baby for 9months then I get the final say......A bit selfish I know, but it is how I feel

My tech was able to check each and every time I went in for a sono after my level 2. I was so convinced that I was having a girl I made her check all the time... and ofcourse she was right .. I was having a boy... But yes they could check...

they already know the sex of your baby... its written in the charts. the drs still find out even if you dont want to know.

I have done my level 2 and ultrascreen at North Shore. I was told they do not write the sex down when they do the level 2 b/c then insurance would not pay for it, since it would make it seem like they are just looking for gender confirmation, not medical issues...
Just what I was told. I would assume a drs office might write it down though if they do their own.

That's not alwasy true....I know at my OB if you do not want to know they do not document it....It makes no difference to the doctor as to what you're having

Same here. The tech knew, but didn't write it down in my chart. The doctors in my practice don't know the sex.

I actually asked the tech if she knew and she said no. She told me that she avoids that area if the patients doesn't want to find out. She also said she does not have to document the sex.
I will see what DH wants to do at 28 weeks. You don't usually get a sono at 28 weeks in my office unless they need to see something they are concerned with. In my case it is my low Placenta. If I go by myself to the appointment, I can find out what I want.

At my 35 week sono, the tech took a pic of "boy parts" of one of the twins, so you probaly still have a real good shot at 28 weeks.
