Fine motor skills

My 2 1/2 year old still has trouble using a spoon or fork and rather eat with her hands. She always uses her left hand. She also has trouble holding a crayon to color. I feel like she needs a little help. I feel bad and she gets so frustrated when she cant do something. even putting coins into the piggy bank is hard for her to do and she always says help mommy help. I try to show her how to move her wrist and how to correctly hold the spoon but shes still having trouble. Should I say something to the DR.? My DD had PT to help her walk when she was 1 and now I am wondering if she needs it for fine motor skills?

Fine motor skills

Def mention it to the doctor. My DD is 14 months and we just had her evaluated by EI for a delay in fine motor. She doesn't have the pincer grasp, points and pushes buttons with her middle finger, and has some difficulty holding certain objects, like a crayon. She scored great in all areas except fine motor, where there is a significant delay. So luckily she qualified for services and will be starting soon. From what I've been told this is the easiest delay to "fix".

Re: Fine motor skills

Please don't just talk to your ped. Dd's ped told us she was FINE and when she was evaluated they found she was 3% fine motor. Call EI and contact them if you are concerned. After one year of OT she is around 40-50% now for fine motor. If I went by my ped (both old and new) she wouldn't have gotten help. My OT said that peds often are not good with fine motor deficits.
