It's called Drill Team Tornaments. Most of Long Island's Fire Departments have a tornament team. Upstate does it too.
a lot of upstate teams have them as well.
Listen I'm a 13 year member of my fire department, and it has been in my family for five generations. You don't need to explain it to me. My department competes.

well we are all entitled to OUR own opinion. I for one enjoy the tournaments and watching my friends compete. And when I was a member I enjoyed racing. I look forward to it every summer. That's my opinion. Agree..disagree..I could care less.

wel i just know that fire department do A LOT OF fundraising...
in fact i thinkt here is a fund raiser every friggin month for some..
THAT FD...in particular generates A LOT OF MONEY ..
they do a car show every year for the entire summer and that alone creates a lot of SURPLUS FLOW...
if they wanted the race car soo bad...take it from mtheir fund raising money....i am cool with that.
I am cool with making their working environment nice at my expense
BUT YOU CAN"T HAVE EVERYTHING..
and definitely NOT on my bill...
If you want the crusises and nights out and vacations ....COOL
then you aren't going to have your friggin race car

that alone generates a sick amount of money for that fire department

i just know a bunch of them ...
and that is just one..of their MANY MANY fundraisers
that department does a lot to raise money...which is totally cool IMO
but then use that money to buy the damn car...
you cant do everything
lets face it...they put themselves out there for the criticism by going overboard

sorry but it is personal to me. i grew up around the fire dept and can't stand when people are so quick to make everything look so horrible. especially those that have never volunteered.
my grandfather was one of the first members. My dad was a chief and is now a commisioner. I was a member. My brother, cousin, uncle and grandmother were either involved or were involved.
most of the members are like family to me. it is something i am very proud of and feel they get more $h!t then raves.

Personally - I hate Newsday and firmly believe that their statistics are not to be trusted.
I take everything they say with a grain of salt - I mean they fudged their own circulation #s!
With that being said - I do find it excessive to purchase a sports car.

While I think a place to unwind and hang out is a pretty good way to spend money at a volunteer dept...the way Farmingville's racing team is, they don't deserve that car!

My dad was NYFD and volunteered in our town for many years. I appreciate that they need to be recognized for their service and that may include social events, but I also think there should be accountability.
I think that there is a lot of discretionary spending and if taxpayers are paying for things, they should know where the money goes.

seriously now folks in the grand scheme of my tax bill the few hundred for the fire department is the least of my concerns. lets put this in prespective now.
do they need a 55 thousand dollar race car???... know what they are doing a difficult job that requires alot of committment and training. they give up their time to help the community and if i can give them something that will make them happy or make their families happy they are getting it. why because when i need them they come to help me any time for any reason. if giving them something that will make life a bit better or more enjoyable cost me an extra couple of bucks then who gives a sh*t they get it no questions.
take the money from the d*mn school districts. - i'm not saying anymore. this thread is p*ssing me off.
