Fireplace leak?

Does this happen?

I just noticed a dark spot on the stone of the fireplace (the floor) walked over to it and its wet. I thought maybe it was coming from inside and when I looked up it was actually dripping from in between the brick and the fireplace itself (on the outside)

Re: Fireplace leak?

It has been raining so hard for so long that the water is finding even the most hairline crack to penetrate because it always takes the path of least resistance. We have gotten over 12" in the past 8 daysChat Icon and the east end has gotten even more.

I would put something near the spot to catch the water for now. If the leak only started today it is probably for the reason above. It probably has never leaked before. It's supposed to stop raining tomorrow. Let is dry out and the next time it rains check it. If it leaks again under normal rain amounts then I'd call in the mason.

Re: Fireplace leak?

Could the rain just be getting in from the top? Maybe your cover has some holes?

Re: Fireplace leak?

Thanks. Thats what I said to my DH but we just moved in on Saturday and when we got here the old homeowners had a roofer on the phone cause the roof was leaking. They had that fixed.

This is on the other side of the house. And its like such little drips
